Burn / rash marks

Posting on behalf of my wife. I got her a vivoactive 3 for xmas. Since wearing it she have developed a burn patch area on her arm under the optical sensor. I have photos and her doctor has indicated that the skin  is damaged. The skin damage is in a rectangle shape directly under the area where the three green lights sit for the optical HR.

She wears it 24/7 except for when she showers. She cleans the sensor daily and drys her arm fully before putting the watch back on after the shower. She has now moved the watch to the other arm and the same appears to be happening there. This process takes a few days / week of continued wear to occur.

Are others seeing this issue?  is it a burn or a rash?   The first arm is still red with a raised hard red skin area even after a week of wearing it on the other arm.

The Doctor doesnt think its a rash but we have a topical cream just in case.

thanks

Richard

I have the same issue and started to wear the watch on my left wrist and came out with what looks like a burn mark, the size of the watch. I then changed to my right wrist and the same thing happened. I also got a reaction on the side of my wrist. All the patches dry up and flake, similar to sunburn. Used to wear a TomTom watch and never experienced any of these issues.

This wasn't the 1st garmin watch and have had but I've never had a reaction like that with any of my previous watches. Don't bother wasting your time writing to garmin they don't want to know and have the worst customer service I've ever had to deal with. Hope your arm improves I had to get cream from my doctor.

  • there are a lot of people experiencing this. I have the same, and it is so strange that almost for 2 years I had no problem, but since 2-3 months ago it started. At first, I thought it was because of the HR sensor. I deactivated it and for a week nothing happened and I thought I nailed the problem. But then, there it was, rash again just under the HR sensor, round red mark. I switched the watch from one hand to the other and the same thing happened again. I do not know why it was no problem for such a long time and right now it begin to rash. I wanted to buy the new Vivoactive 4, but now I donțt know what to do, I am afraid this will have the same problem too

The whole experience and way I was treated by garmin has put me off I will never Own a garmin again as they have made out its basically my own fault even though they themselves call it a common issue with there watches. I have since invested in a fitbit versa 2 which comes with a fabric strap and so far I find it the superior

Same situation for me. I moved it to my right wrist today and will post my complaint under my Garmin account 1:1 with customer support. So sad, I love the watch.

  • Having exactly the same experience after 2 years. So much people complaining and Garmin pretending that nothing is happening. Incredible!!!
