5.70 update has ruined my battery life

Dear Garmin Team,

i was very satisfied with the vivoactive 3 until recently. altough there were some altitude issues battery life was good (6-7days) and the watch worked as expected.

with the 5.70 update this has now changed and now I only get maxium 3days without gps and Bluetooth off(see attached picture).

please fix this! ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1445199.jpg
  • Hi Djajgs,
had have same issue in summer. Was only 3 Days till 1%. Really annoying. Some day i don't recharged the watch on low battery and awaiting low battery shutdown. I still have 1% for a next 1 full day. Then 0% for a next 12 h. Have recharged the VA3 and it was OK again. Now with 5.70 and 2 h GPS activity i have juice for 4-5 days. I think it is some way auto-calibrating feature goes getting wrong data or so.
  • I'm seeing similar, but really it's in "big chunks", and otherwise it drains the same as 5.50.
I'll look down, not in an activity or similar, and my watch is at say 89%, maybe 18 hours post-charge (no GPS use yet), and then all-of-a-sudden it's something along the lines of 75%, in a matter of minutes.
I'm sure Garmin will say it's a "recalibration", or similar, but something sure seems to be off, from my first 6 months of my VA3 (all FB before that, which had it's own issues).
After the "drop", it mostly goes back to normal, except if I try to get 3-4 days on the charge, I'll see at least one more of these, which really limits the watch to 2-3 days, without any GPS use at all (but some activity tracking, I have a bunch of non-GPS activity dupes, since my Garmin tracks my rides and such, and on my walks I'm not that interested in my GPS tracks, just my steps/HR/calories).

In my photo it can be clearly seen that my watch also drains low(this happens during night) during daytime the drain slope is much steeper, leading to the described big drop.

I have the feeling that the above widget on the vivoactive does not go beyond beta status and is quite limited.

Doesn't go beyond beta status and quite limited how? I've used that widget for years with my 235, VA3 and 935. My wife has been using it on her VA3 for quite a while now and we've never had problems with it. It matches what the stock battery meter displays and has quite a bit more information. Are you the developer of the battery widget in the link listed on the bottom of your post?

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not a developer.

I only tried Battery Gauge in context with this thread and came to my conclusion. I didn't find a way to adjust anything.

In the Connect IQ Store the developer of Battery Gauge writes also: "...NOTE: It is currently not possible to access the menu on the Vivoactive 3. I'm aware of this, but due to various circumstances I cannot provide a timeline for a fix. So for the time being, Vivoactive 3 functionality is limited..."

That's why I linked a widget that shows more useful information on my watch.

  • Yeah, Battery Gauge is quite limited on the VA3. I prefer Battery Widget myself. Although it doesn't have the graph, it does have all the other data (and more) Battery Gauge is missing,

My watch was fine on the previous sw but now 5.7 kills the battery life. I am using actiface nothing else. Infact nothing else changed bar the garmin update.
  • The problem of battery drain in my device with FW 5.70 is exaclty the same thet I had with 5.50: after full charge I have to remove the usb cable, use the device for about one hour to check if the drain is bigger than 0.55 %/hr and than to fully charge again leaving it in charge about 1-2 hours more after the indication of 100% charge. After this procedure the device is normally working with and average of 0.4%/hr of battery drain (about 8 day without GPS). It is very annoying ...
