Dear Garmin Team,

i was very satisfied with the vivoactive 3 until recently. altough there were some altitude issues battery life was good (6-7days) and the watch worked as expected.

with the 5.70 update this has now changed and now I only get maxium 3days without gps and Bluetooth off(see attached picture).

please fix this! ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1445199.jpg
  • Dear Garmin Team,

Same here. Used to be 5-7 days, now 2 and nothing changed but the firmware. Have tried reset and other tricks but no change.
  • After 4 days and 3 runs using GPS my watch still has more than 40% battery charge left with 5.70.
  • I seeing similar runtimes, mabye 15-25%/day, as per 808mel, give-or-take a bit.

I'm also seeing that stupid "abrupt drop" that Dready704 is, which is super annoying. The problem with heating and not quite measuring charge accurately has been around a LONG time, and this doesn't seem to be a pervasive problem for Garmin, it's limited to a few devices and FW releases, but in particular my VA3 seems to be prone.
Sure, it's a tough time to measure (at charge-disconnect/heated), exactly, but the battery charge "lifespan" works out to the same, which is why *most* devices (other wearables, cell phones, tablets, laptops, you name it...) handle this, by "smoothing" the battery indication, knowing full well that it will average out, say at 12-24hrs.

I wish Garmin would fix this, once-and-for-all, and leave the algorithm for that calculation alone; it's almost like somehow it's very monolithic (it shouldn't be) to this watch/charge cycle algorithm, for whatever reason...

After no problems with Battery Life for six months, I charged from 20% to to about 55% last night. This morning I found my VA3 turned off. Turned it back on and it was at 1% battery life. Somehow I was not surprised to find this thread about the 5.70 firmware (what I'm running) and battery life

Looks like 5.90 is out, though the battery issues don't seem to be mentioned.

a lot of us mentioned this after 5.70, told to do the usual reset, changed a setting etc but still the same and I think it turns on GPS when you are in an activity (I cycle once a day) and that drains it. However training tickets on here and seems no one accepts this and thinks all our watches are bust after 5.70 - as if

I just found this after fixing it on my own. I too had a wicked battery drain after the 5.7 update. What i did to fix it was. Factory reset, then i turned off Auto Activity Start under Activity Tracking. This seemed to fix the issue for me.
