Same problem with Xiaomi mi Airdots pro Air earphones. I saw that the Fenix 6 series had the same problem and a beta fix was released some days ago. I hope they are going to do the same for VA3 too.
Be aware? Are you kidding me? Any two electronic gadgets the bluetooh capability ought ought to be 100% compatible, period. MY JBL 120's works flawlessly with all of my laptops, phones as well as my smart…
Same problem, Vivoactive 3 Music watch with JBL Reflect Mini 2 earbuds. Volume up button on earbuds works fine, volume down doesn't, must control with watch face which is annoying when running. Problem…
Unfortunately Garmin only supports a (ridiculously) small set of bluetooth earphones. I have reported the issue with the volume a while ago to Garmin support with a demo video, the response was that they would look into it, but without promises to fix it soon. perhaps more people should contact Garmin support, posting on this forum will definately not result in any fixing.

Be aware not to buy Garmin if you plan to use BT earbuds other then the handful they support!
I also am having the same issue. I do, however, have some cheap Vivitar earphones, but they work really well on all my other devices, and I did not expect my Garmin watch to be the one to cause issues with them. This is a Highly annoying issue, and I am disappointed that this expensive, high quality gps watch can't even control my music volume as well as my 1954 chevy corvette radio. maybe I need to get new headphones but I shouldn't have to spend a few hundred bucks for my volume control to work.
Had similar problem, the volume hung at the maximum when my child listened to music. She was frightened. After that, I decided to switch to the iPod. By the way, now they produce special clothes for children where they can put a player in their pocket, it's very convenient. You can find them here https://www.kidly.co.uk/
