Garmin Pay not working

Hi All,

I got a VA3 for Christmas. I set it up with Garmin Pay and that worked fine (my bank supports it). I realised that this particular VA3 had terrible battery life. I had no apps or watch faces and turned off backlight and every other setting I could think of to reduce battery life but it lasted no longer than 3 days (and I purchased it over apple watch for more battery life). I returned it and it was replaced with a new watch, and the new VA3 has good battery life. I typically get a week or more with no GPS usage.... but I setup my garmin pay card and it registers and looks like it is working but you go to use it, and the watch does not communicate with the POS terminal. Over the last month I have tried deleting my wallet and reinstalling, and using the watch at many different places with POS terminals and it simply is not recognised at places that worked fine with my original VA3.

So my thoughts are that the new VA3 has a hardware fault with the NFC system, but before I go through the hassle of replacing the watch again, is there anything else I can try to rule out software issues? Is it possible that the fact I had the credit card installed on a previous watch could stop it working on my new watch? I did delete the wallet on that watch before returning it. I mean it sets up the wallet with no issue and it seems to all work fine, but it just never makes a connection.

Any help appreciated!

    i also have the same prob. Wallet card data is lost on VA3 and it is unable to add card again, Connect said that VA3 is not paired and i should pair VA3 with my phone, but it is already paired and bluetooth working

    Hi All,

    I don't have a solution, but am having similar issues to David. Garmin pay had been working fantastically for over a year, and then on Saturday I got a message advising me that Garmin Pay was locked and I needed to unlock Garmin Pay on my phone. I went to my phone and Garmin Pay was unavailable. Later I checked and it was back on my phone and unlocked on my VA3. I then went to use Garmin Pay on my VA3 and it seemed like the POS device was unable to detect the NFC signal. I then used my bank APP via my phone and the device was able to detect the NFC. This has happened on multiple POS devices since. My conclusion is similar to David's in that something seems to have changed on the VA3 software/firmware just recently.

    Hi All,

    I have resolved my issue by re-installing the Garmin Connect APP on my phone and re-setting up my card into Garmin Pay.

    And again it is not working, cards are lost and are unable to add them back, re-installing Garmin connect do not change anything.

  • It worked for me as well. In fact, I finally did my first successful transaction yesterday.

  • Garmin-Pay is working very well (I use with Revoult card).

    When Garmin Pay will work again?  app re-install and watch reset did not change anything, cards are unable to add.

    I can only say that the same happens with Fenix 5s Plus. The card has disappeared from wallet and now there is no connection to watch in Garmin Pay setting at the mobile phone. There definitely must be some big issue with sw. Hope Garmin fix it before Xmas or Easter at worst.

  • I'm the same as David. Worked fine on my VA3 until either 6.90 or the new 7.00 which has made the watch stop working for any NFC transactions. 

    I tried with no fix:

    1. Clearing the cache on Garmin Connect

    2. Uninstalled it follow by a reinstall.

    3. Delinked my cards and re-added them (even one from a different supported bank)

    4. Deactivating and reactivating bluetooth and power cycled the watch at all of these steps. with a sychronisation. 

    5. Tried at two major supermarket chains and two others stores and wasn't detected on their machines

    6. A NFC app on my phone didn't detect the watch.

    I've contacted Garmin support and asked for a replacement watch. Fingers crossed a software bug is fixed in version 7.10 as I don't have the time with work to conduct form filling and being put on hold with support for a replacement.
