Cadense Sensor

I paired my Garmin Cadence Sensor to the VA3 (made sure it was connected). Started the bike activity and it shows searching for the cadence sensor. I return to setting and the it also show searching for the sensor.

I've done this several times, removed the sensor and added it back with no luck.

Is this a known issue or am i doing something wrong.

I have the same issue with my Garmin cadence and speed sensors. Both paired initially with no problem. After that they'll only pair if I go into settings and select connect while pedaling my bike with one hand and putting my watch within inches of the sensors with my other hand. Once paired, they work fine during my workout. It's nonsense, but it's the only success I have connecting the sensors.

I pretty much the same thing

    1. Make sure sensor is woken up
    2. Start ride app
    3. Press key and start ride (immediately goes to pause)
    4. Navigate to settings and connect sensor
    5. Navigate back to ride and app
    6. Start my ride

I don't need to be riding while getting the sensor paired

I'm sure that Garmin will get the straight soon

FYI - I also ride with a Garmin 1000 as my HUD so I'm getting my cadence information through there (I just like to see all the features of the VA3 working)
  • I had this issue today. Just updated to the new firmware and sensor up. Paired with my speed and cadence sensor. Started the bike app and waited for them to stop flashing and show connected at the top. This didnt happen to tried biking for a bit, no help. I ultimately flipped the bike over and spun the pedal quickly. The cadence connected and a minute or so later the speed sensor connected. With them both solid I started my bike ride. More than a dozen times during a 2+ mile (15 minute) bike ride to test out the watch I had it vibrate and tell me the speed sensor was connected, and once the cadence sensor was connect (at the end of the ride). I am hoping it is just the batteries in the sensors and will try changing them. Though if it was the battery I would expect some sort of notification of a low batter.

We appreciate the discussion and are actively investigating issues with the speed and cadence sensor automatically pairing and displaying data from both sensors at the same time.
  • Bought Vivoactive 3 today, can't get paired two speed sensors and two cadence sensors from two bikes.

  • It was not an easy task. I needed to get them spinning very fast and hold the device close to the sensor to get them to pair.

I had a similar issue today when I tried to pair my foot pod at the gym. I was stomping around like an idiot. In the end I took the pod off my shoe, tapped it on a piece of gym equipment for a few seconds near the device and it worked fine.

Granted I was also notified that it connected twice during a twenty minute workout.

  • Thanks!

Will try that today. I will post if success, so a we can have a workaround, but this is clearly a bug.
  • No success pairing cadence or speed sensors.
  • No success pairing cadence or speed sensors.

Are you trying to pair the sensors through settings or in the cycling app?

If the cycling app, you need to pair through settings.

I had difficulty pairing when telling the VA3 why type of sensor I had. However, when I used the search feature in settings, it found my sensor.

Make sure your sensors are awake (I did this by using my Garmin 1000) and that the VA3 is in close proximity to the sensor.

My VA3 and cadence sensor fail similar to the ways already noted but with the following differences :

    1) There is no speed sensor.
    2) The cadence sensor pairs without issue.
    3) In the watch's settings the sensor status appears as "searching" and then it connects. It can also be connected manually.
    4) Whenever an application is launched that logs cadence no data is ever recorded.
    5) On exit from the application the sensor's status is "searching".
