Venu Software Update - firmware 6.80 update issues

Beware, I took the update this morning and now I am having issues.

Touch functions do not work, nor do the buttons work properly. Screen stays on all the time and then does what ever it wants. Has been locked on the brightness options at times and others. Just rebooted for about the 30th time today and now it is on the "Wait for GPS" screen and I didn't press or touch anything after it rebooted.

Beware this happened right after the update to 6.80 and to top it off, it was 12 months old on Dec 21, 2021

  • Thank you SO much! I really appreciate it. Is this the webpage you went to for 6.71?

    forums.garmin.com/.../beta---venu-sw-6-71-is-available

Do you know if I can use it with a Mac or only Windows? Thank you for your guidance. It means a lot.

  • I think I downloaded from here and I think I used my MacBook Pro

  • Ok this is awesome, I will try it tonight. Thank you again so much for your time and help! Raised handsSlight smile

  • How long should it take after transferring the GUPDATE.GCD file and disconnecting the watch for the update prompt to show up? Was it immediate for you? I transferred the file and after a few minutes I'm not seeing any update still.

  • After I loaded 6.71 on my Venu, I think it was a few days before it prompted me for the 6.80 update. I avoided the 6.80 software for three days before I let it update. It worked fine after that and still is

  • I meant the update to install the 6.71 version that I copied over. I haven't seen anything asking to install that beta version yet.

  • I installed 6.71 because when my Venu1 took the original factory update to 6.80 it became unstable and would not work properly....see the original post. I read and read all over the net and the only thing that seemed to help was to lower the software back to a previous version. I was looking for 6.6, but could only find 6.71. I followed the instructions in the read me and loaded the 6.71. Once loaded it restored my Venu to 6.71 took about an hour if I remember to install the 6.71 and do its final reboot.. This was more than 2 months ago

  • To kevcoffey and Pete M,

Because my touchscreen would not work at all, I was worried that if I tried to upload the 6.71 to the watch (down from 6.8), I would not be able to complete the software "update", due to me not being able to touch "yes" on the screen when asked if I want to continue the update.  I hope that makes sense.  So I decided to call Garmin this morning and tell them what happened.  I was ready to fight for help and/or a new watch, because I've read forums where people had trouble with Garmin Support.  To my astonishment, the representative gave me NO issues at all, did not even ask when I bought the watch, did not ask me any follow up questions (except, did I reboot it? to which I said, yes, like 10 times)... he pretty much just said, I think it's best for you to exchange your watch for a new one.  I was floored and I'm still so surprised with how unbelievably easy it was to get help.  I just wanted them to fix my watch, but instead, I'm getting a brand new one.  I just wanted to let you guys know about this because after thinking about it, I have a feeling that Garmin knows this touchscreen issue is a legit issue, and maybe they are just trying to exchange people's watches to make it right?  I don't know, but I'm not complaining.  :)  If you continue to have issues, I encourage you to give them a call, and hopefully, they will be as nice to you as they were to me.  (Oh, by the way, a different representative replied to my original email from last Friday.  She ALSO offered to exchange my watch, no questions asked.  So that's two reps.  I hope they help you, too!)

    Best of luck!  :)

  • Oh wow, thanks! I'll give that a try! My touchscreen is usually ok after a reboot, but then it can just completely stop at times which is especially frustrating after a run when I'm trying to tell it to save my activity.

  • Garmin also replaced my Venu which refused to take the 6.80 update and froze everyday when it tried to install. It would always work fine after a restart but it was like Groundhog Day trying to install 6.8 day after day. I wrote to customer service and they replaced my watch after only a couple of email exchanges. The replacement was a refurbished unit but looks and acts like new.
