How are your experiences with the battery of the Venu? I am really excited about the watch but there are a lot of complaints on the new vivoactive when it comes to the battery. Is ist the same with the Venu?

I had battery drain giving only 2 to 3 days use, with no activities, using CIQ watch face whilst on firmware 3.8.
Deleting the CIQ watch face and using a built in watch face didn't initially reduce the high drain. I wasn't expecting this and even did a factory reset (try to avoid if possible because it's a hassle setting up everything again) but the high drain persisted.
At this point I was seriously thinking of returning my week old Venu. However, I found that taking off the Venu and leaving it off the wrist whilst I went for a bike ride (use Edge 830 & chest strap HRM for serious biking), the low battery drain had returned!
I have no idea why this should happen and it might not work for others.
However, I thought it might be of interest to other users who might be experiencing high battery drain.
updating the watch is definitely a bad idea. I accidentally left it on overnight and woke up to find it had done a sensor and GPS update. Now battery drain is 2-3x what it was before. Looking at about 3 days of battery life now with screen not on and no activities. I had 8 easily before.
So here is my experience. For few weeks ago the battery life was very poor due to prevoius updates, but after 4.0 software update It is much better, but I think there is still some problems. After this update during the first night battery drained a lot of power 35-40%, anyway I turned off for a while the watch after the update. Next day I turned off and on again, charged to full100% and after that process my average battery consuption is about 1% per hour. After 72 hours of usage I have still 31%. My setup is with notifications on, pulse ox during night, HR auto, NFC payment, one of the Garmin s default analog watch face, BT on, some activitiies with GPS at least one hour per day, after that GPS off. So with this settings my battery life is relatively ok. By the way I think one of the worst problem to battery life is music widget. After I used It, anyway every time I turned off my earbuds in the settings on the watch, the discharging process was very quick. So It looks like something was still working on the backround, maybe... Normal condition came only after restarting.
so now after a couple of days, it seems much better. battery drain seems at or below 0.7% per hour. Chances are we can't do any better than that unless we turn off HRM and gesture to show the screen (which I wouldn't do). Seems that the 4.0 update fixed a few things if you wait a couple of days!
I'm still getting low battery drain, but have been trying a few things to see the impact on battery life.
I set up the Venu as follows
BT 24/7 ‐ I use the Venu as a trusted device on Android and have notifications enabled during the day.
Watchface is in analogue.
Garmin Pay enabled
Display low brightness and short timeout (since 4.0 the short timeout is 14s rather than 4s). Turning the wrist away from your body turns off the display, so don't have to have the display on for the full timeout period, for gestures.
Gestures ON, high sensitivity
HR 24/7
Pulse OX mode off
Sleep mode from 11pm to 6am
No wifi & no music
The battery drain with the above settings is just less than 10% per day. Fully charged battery should last 9 days.
Turning on Pulse OX at night increases the daily drain to 12%.
The battery drain on a GPS enabled activity is 6% per hour.
I tried the Display Always ON setting and the battery drain increased to 22% per day. Whilst I liked just glancing to read the time, I wasn't prepared to sacrifice so much battery life - battery would only last 4 days.
I have tried CIQ watch face but find the 2 to 3 seconds delay for the display to turn on from a gesture too long. The display with a built in watch face, by comparison, turn on with no noticeable delay.
So far so good.
Here is my update of experience of Venu battery life for one charging. Nothing changed in my setup, for 3 days the performancie is ok, about 0.7-0.8%/hour, but among other things, it is a novelty that if the battery level is below 40, it was discharged much much faster. It dropped about 17% during the night. And because of this my average consumption increased to 1%. And it's not just a one-time finding. So no 5 days, only 4 days.
After things calmed down with the 4.0 update battery life climbed a little bit and seems to have leveled off now. I have about 9-10% drain in a 16 hour period. I don't wear the watch to bed and turn it off at night. I use Garmin analog faces with temperature, sunrise/set, steps, battery, HR, active minutes, date, and stairs showing. Gesture is on always with high sensitivity. No CIQ because of the huge delay with gesture. No pulse ox. Bluetooth always on and notifications with phone always on. So this is a little over 9 days without GPS activities (walking is fine). It could stretch to 10 but I decide to charge after the 9th day. So overall I don't think any modern smart watch with oled comes even remotely close. Glad to see battery life went back up because that's why I use Garmins.
