Is it already "SAFE" to purchase a Vector 3?

Hi,

One year ago I bought a pair but returned them because of the design flaw/dropouts/etc...

Now, owning a good and old vector 2, IS IT SAFE to purchase the V3?
Is it 100% functional, free from bugs?

Thanks
Dany.

  • Aha - so I think I found the root cause for cadence "noise". Made sure today that phone App (GCM) and the Edge had the 100% same settings. Did a quick 10 min spin with perfect result...
  • Did a 1:40 Zwift ride today.

Absolutely flawless performance from V3 (on C1/3N batteries).

I replaced the battery doors (sent by Garmin free of charge) and it seemed stable for a month or so. Unfortunately, the pedals are, once again, exhibiting erratic behaviour - dropouts, odd power readings, etc. And the batteries seem to be draining very fast. I took out the batteries and cleaned everything (there were black deposits) and hope to ride again this weekend to test the pedals.
  • well, further to my ct was post above. had a good look at the pedals and removed the battery PCB's and compared them. the right pedals' negative contact was broken leaving only the smallest contact area possible to use. Contacted Garmin Support Europe and received a replacement PCB kit with three days - THANK YOU
Now my real question is, how does changing batteries break this contact?

Just a small update on this one.

Removing the V3 completely from GCM might be the actual root cause here! Tried it out yesterday with perfect results.

using baby oil between batteries i have never experienced any spikes in 2000km.as a total product is not a good one compared with what you can get at 50-60% of this price P2max ,Quarq.they are looking good ,that s there only good side.one pedal is making noise like i have used years (and it has 2 month ,1 only indoors).it s the type of product that always has other and other problems.you think you managed one, another one appears and so on.compared to my p2max ngeco(490 euro)this are garbage.very sensible to wear,to anything.you cant trust it every day or set it and forget about it like a quarq dzero or p2max.always has other problems.if i can get half the money i have payed i will sell them instantly.bad customer service...
  • Hi, I know many are getting good results now, but in the last couple months I have had 2 new pairs of V3s (from CleverTraining) that had new battery doors, used mineral oil, tried the single battery idea, new firmware, and both had dropouts. I have P1 pedals, several PT G3 hubs, Taxc Neo and other means of comparing, and have been using power meters for many years. I have a dozen Garmin products, and I love the way the V3's look, and it was painful for me to have to return the 2nd set too. I don't know what is going on, other than the battery contacts are marginal and in some cases they just won't work. Perhaps a manufacturing tolerance defect. Maybe they will change some things in the future so I feel ok about buying again.

  • I am not sure if it is ever *safe* to get a Garmin product. I have been a Garmin user for years and years and the fact is that at some point they usually screw up even the products that have been working fine; the new firmware updates always bring some new issues.
  • Hi,

I used a piece of cork and no more peaks, missing right pedal or balance L/R issue...

However pedals drain the batteries very fastly....
