Measurements diapearing from Garmin Connect

So here is what I am observing:

I weigh in on my Garmin Index every morning. If I check Garmin Connect shortly thereafter, it shows all six measurements - weight, body fat, BMI, % water, Muscle Mass, and Bone Mass. Then sometime during the day, all the measurements disappear except for Weight. I have checked Garmin Connect on my PC, Android Phone, and IPad and its the same on all of the, the reset of the measurements are gone.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Dan
  • It's not limited to your FR235 only. I have an Edge1000 and it's doing the same thing. I have been experimenting a bit.

Scenario (1) Weigh > all weight metrics appear in GC> Workout with my Edge > Synchronize my Edge > only weight & BMI remain in GC

Scenario (2) Workout with my Edge > Synchronize my Edge > Weigh > all weight metrics appear in GC and remain.

It's only been a couple of days and Scenario (2) has been consistent. I plan to keep this going for a couple of weeks...every day and see if it stays this way. Of course, there is a bug in the system. I prefer to weigh myself anytime I want and not worry about losing my data. Currently, this seems to be my work-around.

To me, as mentioned in a previous post, that synchronizing your other Garmin fitness device(s) after weighing overwrites the GC data with just weight & BMI which sort of makes "screwy" sense because the Edge only stores weight & height which are the only two metrics used to calculate BMI.

I suspect that members that have and only use the index scale do not have this problem. Or if you do have other garmin fitness deviices, you can try my second scenario or not letting them sync with GC and see what happens. In either cases, please chime in. Thanks.

It isn't just the forerunners. I use a Fenix 5x and my SO uses the Vivoactive 3 and we both have issues with the scale. My BMI changes from day to day, the weight on the scale fluctuates 20 full pounds (I weighed myself at 190 and 170 today in the same minute), and my data is disappearing from Garmin Connect. I have talked to support, sent proof, etc but they say it is a non issue and blame me for manually inputting weight to remove the other data (which I have NEVER done). I have disconnected MFP and everything else they have asked and today my problems are worse than they have ever been. My data for the last 2 days disappeared and my scale will only send weight and BMI to the app (which I am 100% sure is incorrect due to the scale being off but I don't have another one to test it with).

Also, if you haven't called support and have this problem I recommend doing so. I was told by "Lee" of the "Fitness Team" of Garmin support that this is not a known issue at all and no other tickets were put in about any similar issues. He said that there are no known issues for the Index Smart Scale and it should work perfectly with all Garmin products. He also said that the Forerunner/Fenix/Vivoactives or any other watches would never cause issues with Garmin Connect and your Smart Scale.

I'm experiencing the same issue, and I think JulesMedina is correct, the problem isn´t with the Index, but with how weight data is synced back to Garmin Connect. The watch will get updated weight data from a Connect app, and the upload that same data back to Garmin Connect overwriting the data from Index.

I have attempted to illustrate the steps in the attached image.

I also contacted Garmin support, but haven´t heard back yet. Will follow up tomorrow.

  • Yeah, I confirmed today that it's the syncing of my forerunner 935 that's causing the data to disappear.
I basically have no data everyday besides weight until they fix it [of course unless I weigh myself at 11:59pm after all the watch syncing for the day ].

    Please fix it soon!!!

    thank you!

Fenix 3 HR. My data disappears after watch sync.
Wife, who uses the same scale but hasn't got any other garmin devices, get to keep her data.
    Good for her...

I've just solved the same problem with disconnecting MFP from GC. All data from this morning measurement are visible in GC also after synchronization with FR620 and vivosmart3 was done.

    Thanks friends for useful hints!

  • I found that my account was linked to MyFitnessPAL somehow (even that I don't use it). I deactivate MFP for GC and the measurements are being keep in GC. So the issue is not either Garmin devices software or Garmin Index is MFP
  • @JulesMedina: See my post above. It used to be the same for me, but ever since upgrade to firmware 7.60 on Fenix 5X, it disappears even if not connected to MFP.

Because it happens on so many different watches and the dates seem similar, I would guess the problem is on Garmin Connect itself, and the way it handles syncing. Probably syncing back and forth too much, then syncing 'weight' as a group. Normally, you would only have weight and BMI, which is all that other devices / third party apps would sync back, leading to blanking of the other fields (which can really only be populated by the Smart Index and only syncs one way, that I am aware of). That could also explain why it gives trouble with MFP and with some firmware. That is one (unsubstantiated) theory, anyway.
  • Agreed @RoguePhoenix: I'm using a Fenix5x & Index Smart Scale. I can confirm that the issue is occurring for me too. I weighed in this morning and all weight details were on my GC profile, as soon as I sync'd my afternoon run via WiFi the weight data was cleared out.

Garmin Syncing is horrendous at present, weight, alarms, watch face settings are all volatile.
