Measurements diapearing from Garmin Connect

So here is what I am observing:

I weigh in on my Garmin Index every morning. If I check Garmin Connect shortly thereafter, it shows all six measurements - weight, body fat, BMI, % water, Muscle Mass, and Bone Mass. Then sometime during the day, all the measurements disappear except for Weight. I have checked Garmin Connect on my PC, Android Phone, and IPad and its the same on all of the, the reset of the measurements are gone.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I am having the same problem. It happened today also. Checked GC right after weigh in. Everything was there.
Later in the afternoon. All the metrics disappeared on GC except the weight....very frustrating losing all the data..
Btw, I don't have MyFitnessPal or anything. Only garmin connect.

I have forerunner 935 if that matters...
  • This issue has been escalated and we are actively looking into the cause and a solution. Thank you for your patience.

Please can you commit to returning here with an update in a reasonable time such as two weeks or a month. I ask this because we have seen a number of such reassurances about issues being addressed in the past, followed by indefinite silence. So for credibility, please let us know when you will update us on this. That doesn’t mean a solution. It does mean good practice of expectation management.
  • Evidence that the iss may be independent of the Index scale:

my scale is out of the picture for now because I shipped it to Garmin support for them to check out (see earlier post).

so I am weighing myself each morning on a ordinary old fashioned bathroom scale and enter my weight manually int GCM. After I do that it she’s up as the weight and ALSO the delta. A few minutes later, presumably after some kind of sync, the delta figure disappears.

So so it’s not the scale and it’s not MFP because it isn’t connected.

    my watch is. Fenix 5x
  • I reported this problem to Garmin in November. At the time, I also thought the problem was MyFitnessPal. The problem seemed to have started give or take a day or so from 10 October 2017.

Further experimentation revealed that not only did all the measurements except weight and BMI get deleted, but it also changed the weight - either to a weight from a different day or to so other incorrect weight that is different from what the scale showed and different from what was originally recorded. This of course breaks the entire ecosystem; for example, weight gets read into the watch, which uses it to calculate VO2 Max, running power, etc. etc. So now suddenly most of the data from the watch became unreliable as well.

Garmin advised that I disconnect MFP, which I did and the problem went away. Unfortunately, this means the MFP functionality got lost while I wait for Garmin to fix it. Garmin indicated no interest in the sync logs, but wanted to know what watch I used.

Around 27 December, the synchronisation with Technogym also went wonky. GC would synchronise general calories burned for the day, but specific recorded activities (which used to work just fine) stopped syncing to Tehcnogym (MyWellness.com). This created a whole lot of new problems, but at least the scale's measurements weren't getting deleted.

Last week, GC started destroying data other than BMI and weight even without MFP connected. I am not sure if it is again changing the weight values as well. It happened on Saturday, directly after my Fenix 5X updated to firmware 7.60. Combined with the previous lack of interest in syncing logs from Garmin, but questions re the watch I use, I am guessing the problem is either with the watch firmware, or with GC platform updates that happen at the same time. Nonetheless, there are clearly problems with syncing to third party apps as well, and at least some of them seem unrelated to this error. So the entire syncing system (between Garmin products and with third party products) seem to be wonky at the moment. Unfortunately, that wonky makes the entire system and everything connected to it (ie basically most of your Garmin products) unreliable.

Garmin support did indicate they are looking into this and they seem to appreciate any further information they can get. So please send exactly what happens and your experiences to Garmin Support. Also, it might be useful if we indicate what hardware we have and perhaps what third party apps are connected to ours accounts, as well as the dates on which problems started.

    In my case:

    HARDWARE

    1.) Garmin Index Smart Scale

    2.) Fenix 5X.

3.) I also have Vivosmart HR (seems unrelated to the problem as I got it on a special after these problems started)

4.) Runscribe plus (definitely unrelated as I only got that quite recently; it does have a problem

THIRD PARTY APPLICATIONS LINKED & DATES PROBLEMS OBSERVED

    1.) MFP (created problems from around 10 October 2017 until last week; problem might still be present but now seems temporarily irrelevant as the problem presents even without a link to MFP;

2.) Strava (no indication of problems here)

3.) MyWellness (Technogym): No indication of related problems here, though it certainly has developed problems syncing with GC in December 2017.
  • It all feels a bit beta-testing. I am 6 months’ new to the Garmin ecosystem and dived in thinking its act would be thoroughly together. Experience with a premium watch and premium scale has been very flakey. I am just as ready to sing Garmin’s praises if it all even approximated to “just working”.

I write this in case a passing social marketing type from Garmin thinks it’s worth passing on to colleagues.

At least 6 weeks and counting for me with this issue and still no fix... its funny how they just throw out updates to their ecosystem with no apparent unit testing. Just when your getting comfortable with the amount of money you've spent indulging a past time they go and throw it back in your face... ah let's just release another update and see what we can brick.
  • For what it's worth, here's two users more struggling with the same issue. The measurements are there until the GC app syncs with the watch. After that, nothing but the weight. I've notified Garmin Support by e-mail and pointed them in the direction of this forum thread.

    Add another.

Garmin 935 and an Index Scale that now has about as much value as a $14.99 scale from Wall Mart. FWIW, account is linked to MFP and Strava, although un-linking them didn't seem to fix anything.

In addition to only saving weight and BMI data, it's now reverting to previous days measurements (although the most recent will display for a few minutes before reverting).

As a test I created a second GC account yesterday, made a connection to the new account from my primary one and then invited it to the scales.
After my evening run I weighed myself twice, once on each.
The full details of both were still in GC this evening until I came back from my run and synced the activity on my 935.
My main GC account only shows weight and BMI, whereas the second GC account continues to show all my weight stats.
As a temporary work around I am going to save my weight to the second account until Garmin fix the issue
It does appear that when my watch uploads an activity via the mobile app it overwrites my weight data.
  • I just figure out that the problem is not the Index Scale, but the Forerunner software since version 7.50, What is happening is that the Index sents the correct measurements to my garmin account and when the Forerunner gets update with my weight forerunner device is sending the weight back to Garmin account which is overwritting the actual Index values with just the weight from the forerunner device this started to happen on Jan-17-2018 with the v7.50 update. My wife uses the Index scale as well but she does not own any other Garmin fitness tracker hence she's measurements are being displayed correctly and the problem is FR235 software v7.50 and beyond as i'm currently on v7.60 and the problem still exists
