Measurements diapearing from Garmin Connect

So here is what I am observing:

I weigh in on my Garmin Index every morning. If I check Garmin Connect shortly thereafter, it shows all six measurements - weight, body fat, BMI, % water, Muscle Mass, and Bone Mass. Then sometime during the day, all the measurements disappear except for Weight. I have checked Garmin Connect on my PC, Android Phone, and IPad and its the same on all of the, the reset of the measurements are gone.

Has anyone else noticed this?

  • ... precisely my point...

My data missing problem seems to be since 9th Jan (all metrics excepts weight are flatlined since that date)... this is more than "a week or so"
I mentioned this to the support chat but he replied that they are working hard on it (of course, they do!) so it must be quite a big problem if it hasn't been resolved by now !!! not encouraging...

I told him that I paid the premium price of the Index Smart Scale for the smart part of it... it will be an expensive scale if he can't do more than what a normal/cheap scale can do (ie only measure your weight!)

I would recommend that everyone contact the support so that they can be added to the currently opened issue and get notified when this is solved... hopefully, having more people "registered for update" on this issue will make it all more visible of the impact of the current situation... and hopefully help the software team to prioritise on this fix!

  • Same for mee. Since begin feb 2018 the scale is only presenting the weight in de Garmin App and on the PC.
Why allways the same answers from Garmin helpdesk !
Delete the App an sync. again and reset the device.

    Anything else you have ?

    Problem solved NO!!!!!!
  • Same issue.
All values disappeared from connect except wheight.
Garmin please fix ASAP since product is useless at this point!

BTW, Im using a Fenix 5X too. Not sure if it’s related somehow.
  • So apparently my joy was short lived.

Today weighed myself. Data shows on scale. Go to check on phone and can see it's being passed through to GCM bit not displaying when you click on the click on the weight.

Tried checking GCM with BT turned on. Then turned BT off and weighed myself again. But no joy.

Would also suggest posting on the Garmin FB page with a link to this post. Stress that you can't recommend this product to people as it's faulty.

  • I go weight myself this AM. Then I go to my phone in 30 sec and pull down to sync and my data is there on my GCM.

There is no need turn on BT. Your weight scale communicate via WiFi to your router, then post to your Garmin web portal.
  • Assuming positive intent is a sensible, pragmatic and effective mindset for professional and personal life. I try to use it and sometimes succeed.

In the spirit of this, I am going to see it as a good thing that a Garmin moderator has, yes, moderated the posts above in which I included email addresses of senior Executives at Garmin (including those of people charge of Communications, Public Relations and, indeed, all of Garmin).

I am viewing it as positive because, at the very least, it shows that this Garmin moderator is paying attention to this forum. That's a good thing, because there's something worse than being sold product that doesn't do what it is marketed as doing, and that's the chaotic communications and lack of proper expectation management when you helpfully and positively try to help the support people identify the issue and find a resolution. So thank you Garmin-Blake for your good work.

Now, I don't know if my or anybody else's emailing of those senior execs has made the slightest bit of difference. You'd hope that they'd at least have forwarded the mails to the people who manage the obviously non-functioning product and the seemingly uncoordinated support to get some reassurances that things are under control. Maybe. And, Garmin-Blake, I'll commit to not posting any more or your senior colleagues' email address in this forum again, and trust that you are communicating up the line and to peers in support and marketing etc.

Back to positive intent: I've stated this in previous posts and I want to emphasise it again: I am confident that all the support agents that I have spoken to, and the moderators here, Garmin employees and volunteers, all these people mean well and are committed to doing the right thing. There is no sense to it being otherwise. The problem seems to be what I call hapless communications coordination. And that's a management failure. And I am not even saying that management is to "blame" because it isn't and shouldn't be about "blame". Cleaning up this mess can be an opportunity to do things better in the future. And I'll be the first to sing the praises of an organisation that listens and corrects its mistakes in an open and frank way. We all mess up. Well, at least I do.

To further encourage stakeholder communications, I've sent this thread to the support guys at MFP – it seems that there have been sync issues between MFP and Garmin in the past, even while all the evidence points to MFP being in the clear for this current issue. I've sent it to MFP support suggesting they skim it to see how they have been, probably mistakenly, implicated in the problem, and suggested their integrators talk to their Garmin peers to promote mutual understanding.

Some more positivity: This crisp Melbourne morning, I weighed myself at 6 am. As usual the scale synced to Garmin Connect Mobile (iOS) and the smart data appeared in the expanded view of My Day - except for the Delta which isn't working –, and I applied my 20th Century workaround in anticipation of the usual data destruction: I took screenshots that I may or may not be able to use to inform a manual input of the data after Garmin fixes the issue. And then I went for my Saturday 10K run in the morning sunshine along the beautiful Yarra River. After that, without a heavy heart because of the runners' high, I pressed save on the Fenix 5x expecting see the data disappear as it has done everyday since the start of the year. It didn't (or it hasn't yet ...). It's not all good news because tapping on the weight display in My Day takes me to the daily weight screen and the detailed data is not there – just the usual weight and BMI (but the Delta is there :)). On Garmin Connect Web, meanwhile: just the weight and no smart scale data. Hmmm.

So things may be looking up. Even if one very tentative swallow doesn't necessarily make a summer.

UPDATE: SEVERAL HOURS LATER ON THE SAME DAY THE DATA DISAPPEARED/WAS DESTROYED AS "NORMAL". Apologies for shouting.

Should have explained the reason for turning off BT was to see if syncing my Fenix had anything to do with the data issue.

Here's a post from several pages back that demonstrates the issue is likely where you think it is: [Garmin-Blake, I'd be grateful if you can ensure your colleagues investigating the issue have seen this video.]

    Look at my video

  • Add one more person to the list who is having all of their stats other than weight and BMI disappear from Garmin Connect. I have zero desire to disconnect GC from MyFitnessPal as I am firmly entrenched as an MFP user. I bought a Garmin Fenix 5 and the Index Scale for three reasons only:

    1) Activity Tracking
    2) Integration with MFP and the ability to have calorie tracking from Garmin transfer into MFP and compute adjustments to daily calorie and macro intake targets in MFP
    3) The ability to have a scale with additional metrics beyond weight that would sync to the same platform that tracks my activity

As of now, this issue has eliminated my ability to have #2 and #3. If this doesn't get fixed, I will absolutely ditch the Garmin ecosystem, as the only real benefit was having all of my info in one place. Since I now can't even get basic info into that place, it's a fail.
  • There's an additional thread here addressing this issue in an attempt to get rid of the almost certain distraction of MyFitnessPal. Many of the posts in this thread and other thread clearly demonstrate that MFP is not part of the current problem. Indeed, when many of us who are not connected (or have disconnected) from MFP are told by support to disconnect and lose even more of the utility of the supposed "ecosystem" and "integration" it makes our investment in Garmin devices even more frustrating.

If you post in the other thread, please refer to this and vice versa. It would not be good to confuse people looking for help, and especially not good to disorientate any Garmin techs who are doing their research get this mess cleared up.
