Garmin Swim keeps resetting and now won't allow pool size to be input correctly

My 15 month old Garmin Swim is on the blink. It keeps resetting itself at random times and it is not not allowing me to input the pool size rendering it quite useless. When I select 50M pool, it says pool size 0 selected. Further, the blue swim button is no longer bringing me into the swim function. any thoughts?

    I have the same problem
firmware is up to date, battery is up to date, my watch is 2 yrs old
    its getting reset while swimming
I hope there is a solution to this.
    I did this today:
New battery, factory reset, upgrade garmin express to latest version, synchro, pray

Thanks to those that offered advice. I replaced the battery but it didn't fix the 'setting pool length' option. I did one master reset and the issue was resolved.
First battery replacement since I got the watch two years ago.

Had the same exact issue. Also couldn't sync the watch with my computer. I did several master resets, no fix (lost 1 month of training data). I bought a new battery then replaced it ... now everything is back to normal. Never got the low battery message.
  • I am facing the same problem:
Loss of function, not able to set poolsize, change battery, doing hardware-reset.
Then it works for about two weeks, and drops out again. No low battery signs anywhere.

So the hardwarereset only helps temporary.

any update from garmin on this issue?

Similar symptoms -- no battery warning, but suddenly it won't sync or let me choose a pool size. After replacing the battery and no joy, I tried the factory reset -- same deal. No good. It says it has 'User Settings' to install, whatever that means, but it gives me a 'Transfer Error' to boot.

Anyone have the way to fix this?

Perhaps the only solution it to purchase a new Garmin Swim .....and have the same problem later ??? I also done a master reset and new battery, pool size always stay at zero. Perhaps the device is not water proof? Or maybe Garmin just doe not know what is happening.
  • The same problem - unable to set pool size - 0 meters - unable to use the watch!!!

    The watch was restarted unexpectedly.
After this restart I am not able to set pool size (still displaying 0 meters).
Unable to start swimm session - the pool size is not set.

    Factory reset didn't helped!
    Batery is OK.

    Just wanted to say

For the longest time, date last synced was dec. 8, 2015 that today I finally found an ant stick my buddy lent me so I could update the firmware on my watch. I lost mine (ANT+ stick) and didn't want to buy a new one. Synced with ant. Then couldn't open swim mode after pressing the lap button. Also pool size was 0 no matter what I selected i.e. any of the pool size options or even custom still defaulted to zero. I came here after googling "garmin swim pool size 0" and low and behold a factory reset worked. Pressing menu, clock, and the up arrow buttons reset my watch but allowed me to start recording my swim data. I'm blessed. Go figure. It might be important to note that back in December my watch stopped working because it required an update to the firm ware so I would suggest if a factory reset does not work, to make sure the firmware is up to date before hand then it should work. :o:o:o:o

I keep having the same issue. Master Reset doesn't help, nor does new battery. It's clear that these watches have a serious issue. They don't work properly. How to we get Garmin to take this seriously??

and me! This is obviously a known problem and Garmin's response to me was "buy a new one" which id ironic at best as their most published strap line is built to last. Was the bit they forgot to add ....just over the warranty!
I've tried new batteries factory resets with no lasting result
Guess its for the bin and seek a more reliable supplier
