FR 935 Wi-Fi failure: "Connection failed. Try again." & "No Wi-Fi Networks Found"

For the last few months, we've been using Wi-Fi to sync to Garmin Connect (and
download firmware updates) for our FR935 & fenix 5S, mostly without problems.

Firmware levels:
FR935: 10.10
fenix 5S: 10.00

And both have worked consistently since the most recent firmware updates.

But yesterday, when I tried to sync the FR935 (via Wi-Fi), it failed to connect
to our home Wi-Fi: "Connection failed. Try again." So I tried again (about 10
times), with the same result.

BUT our wireless network is OK (yes, it really is OK); our fenix 5S can connect
and sync with Garmin Connect, and other devices (laptop, tablet, mobile phone)
can connect to the internet.

On FR935, using: Settings / Wi-Fi / My Networks / Add Network:

=> Searching for Wi-Fi Networks

=> No Wi-Fi Networks Found

BUT the same sequence works on fenix 5S, and can see our home network, and also
our neighbour's network:

On fenix 5S, using: Settings / Wi-Fi / My Networks / Add Network:

=> Searching for Wi-Fi Networks

=> Networks Found (and enumerates them)

So we seem to have a recently-developed problem with the FR935. Is it
hardware, software, firmware? What now?
  • Try a hard reset. Wifi is working for me on 10.10 on the 935
  • I've also got WiFi issues on my 935 which started all of a sudden (I noticed on the 9.70 firmware, but I'm not certain it was triggered by that). For me, almost every time I try to add a network, I also get the "No Wi-Fi Networks Found". If I select "Retry" from the watch before the message goes away, it usually DOES end up finding networks. I then go select my network, enter the password, but the connection always fails, both from the "Test" feature from the phone and also from the Sync feature on the watch. I did notice that I can connect to my network when it's configured to use no security. Yes I'm typing my password correctly. I went through a number of obvious things with Garmin chat support, and eventually they created a support ticket with a bunch of files/logs from my watch...we'll see what comes of that.

    Some more discussion and things to try (none worked for me):

  • Just set mine up on my 935 and all is well.
  • Seems every firmware update is killing my WiFi connectivity. After 9.70 no networks were found and had to perform a hard reset (15 seconds holding light button). With 10.10 same procedure.
    As I am not using Wifi very much, I notice the problems not immediately.

    Would be good if Garmin looks into this bug.

    Yes, both have wifi at 2.40
    Thanks for your input.
  • Does your 935 work with other Wi-Fi networks (e.g. a smartphone hotspot)?
    Do you have non-Garmin Apps/Widgets/Datafields installed?
  • I tried to connect to wifi from Garmin Mobile App and it worked then 935 disconnected from wifi to reconnect to phone, maybe you can't be connect to phone and wifi in the same time

    I have the same problem as you when I turn the watch off and on, so wifi works. Do you have that as well?
  • Having the same issue. Would love to hear if there is some kind of resolution.
