FR 935 Wi-Fi failure: "Connection failed. Try again." & "No Wi-Fi Networks Found"

For the last few months, we've been using Wi-Fi to sync to Garmin Connect (and
download firmware updates) for our FR935 & fenix 5S, mostly without problems.

Firmware levels:
FR935: 10.10
fenix 5S: 10.00

And both have worked consistently since the most recent firmware updates.

But yesterday, when I tried to sync the FR935 (via Wi-Fi), it failed to connect
to our home Wi-Fi: "Connection failed. Try again." So I tried again (about 10
times), with the same result.

BUT our wireless network is OK (yes, it really is OK); our fenix 5S can connect
and sync with Garmin Connect, and other devices (laptop, tablet, mobile phone)
can connect to the internet.

On FR935, using: Settings / Wi-Fi / My Networks / Add Network:

=> Searching for Wi-Fi Networks

=> No Wi-Fi Networks Found

BUT the same sequence works on fenix 5S, and can see our home network, and also
our neighbour's network:

On fenix 5S, using: Settings / Wi-Fi / My Networks / Add Network:

=> Searching for Wi-Fi Networks

=> Networks Found (and enumerates them)

So we seem to have a recently-developed problem with the FR935. Is it
hardware, software, firmware? What now?
  • I have the same issue and it is killing me. I have the watch for several years now but the problem appeared few months ago. the software version is 21.00, while the wifi is 2.40

    does anyone from Garmin Support team check these threads? can we receive a response and/or guidance to solve this issue?

  • Garmin support does not read all these threads. Occasionally someone reads them. This forum is just a way for garmin to save money on support. They hope other users can solve problems for free.

    Wifi problems hapen from time to time. It could be something in the firmware or garmins backends. Hard to say. Deleteling the wifi settings on your watch/in garmin connect and connect again might solve the problem for a while.
    Or learn to live with buggy garmin software. People buy garmin watches because they have the most features, not because all those features work very well.

  • I have deleted the setting several times, I have tried configuring them from Garmin Connect, but it is the same effect.

    yet, from time to time I am able to connect to the wifi, but this is random!

    I do not know if Garmin 945 has the same issue; I am considering buying a second hand one just to get away from this error :)

  • It’s probably not the hardware. My guess is it’s software related and gamin isn’t very good at software. A 945 might or might not do better. Maybe first search this forum for 945 and wifi problems.
