Garmin Forerunner 935 increases the stress level !

Hellol!

Garmin Forerunner 935 increases the stress level against Vivoactive 3. I make the test 3 days.
Restart to factory settings, remove apps, send to service. No solution. Garmin Forerunner 935 does not work right.

Do you have the same problem? I'm looking for a solution to the problem... !? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1312844.jpg ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1312845.jpg
  • I can show you pictures of the all day stress when it didn't work and now how it works fine. The difference is stark, and backs up my comments on this and everybody else's issues with the same watch function.

So if it now 'works fine', what was the solution? Hardware or software?

Don't ask, as a customer he has the right to ignore the difference.
  • Soenkenielsen, was that sarcasm as well? Everyone has the right to ignore the difference between two words (or terms, expressions, et cetera) with dissimilar meanings, but nobody has the ‘right’ to obligate anyone else, inherently or expressly, to overlook his mistake. Fellow Garmin customers are not obliged to go with his flow without question, and quite frankly, neither is Garmin itself.

Yes, the more we challenge each other in a user-to-user discussion forum, the more value we create, since (no sarcasm intended) this was never intended to be a customer service channel.

no sarcasm intended. I mean what I say.

Agree totally. And therefore It is pretty pointless to claim customer rights here in/through this forum by hammering on the Software when, like in this particular case, it clearly was a broken HW (as been said from the beginning).

Two identical devices on the identical Software level/version -> given different results? Than it can either be a)parameter setting/reading or b)broken Hardware. This is pretty simple, I can't see the cryptics in there.
And ofcourse, you are free to ignore the basic technology things, but than I wouldn't buy something as complex as the 935. It helps to understand the basics of the features and functionalites to get the most out of that investment.

Anyway back to topic. Looking at my Overall Stress Level report, it very much correlates with my running efforts of the past 6 months.

Hi, I came to the conclusion that it had to be a hardware issue. A brief summary.

Original watch never showed meaningful stress data, even after patches of 7.6 and 8.0.

First RMA to correct stress values pre 8.0 release, made no difference. Stress values still crap after a few days of valid data.

No improvement on RMA watch when going up to 8.0. It was still pants and then we added elevation/barometric issues into the mix.

Garmin gave me a second RMA on the strength of the barometer issue, that they claimed would be fixed by a hardware replacement. It did, and it also fixed all day stress.

So my conclusion, is that if you have all day stress reporting issues, and it has never worked, your hardware is duff and you should pressure Garmin to rma your watch.

If it has never worked, then Garmin have supplied you (via a retailer) a dodgy product.

    Hope that helps.
  • I also seem to have issues with the all day stress.
every day is now "you had very few restful moments", even when I'm on holiday and I know I've slept round the pool.

It does appear it was lower when I first got the watch in Jan.

So is this an update issue or a hardware issue?

I do seem to have other potential issues. The altimeter seems a bit ropey. I understand it will vary over time with atmospheric pressure, but it varies a fair bit in under an hour in the same location. I've just walked to the printer at work and been told I've hit my stairs target for the day!!! Is this typical?

The temp sensor is all over the place, which I'm not really bothered about, but at the same time seems so inaccurate I don't know what Garmin put it in.

The other thing that seems slightly strange is I run with a chest strap, and VO2 has settled at 49. Its usually 52-54 on my 735. Looking at run heart rates/times i look to be about the same level of fitness as I was.

So starting to wonder if there is some hardware issues going on, especially after reading this thread.

Any ideas? Do I need to look at RMAing it?
  • KR17 yours definitely sounds like a hardware issue - does your stairs issue occur frequently

Reasonably often. I've not had a watch with a 'real' altimeter in it before, so not sure what is normal. I appreciate that atmospheric pressure does vary over time. Quite a few sub 1 hour runs dont seem to finish at the same altitude, and when I use it for indoor squash it loses quite a few meters (not that that is particularly an issue)

I had the stairs thing pop up recently the other day walking my kids to school also.

I'm wondering whether the VO2 mechanism takes climbs/altitude into account, and thats why it maybe isn't in the range I'm expecting. Or I may just be unfit of course.

Is there anything else that makes you say its likely a hardware issue (I'm going to have to talk Garmin into it if I want a RMA)

    Thanks
  • KR17 I certainly wouldn't expect frequent variations of several floor's worth when you are at the same level. Yes the pressure is constantly varying but the watch I believe uses a combination of rate of change of pressure along with an assessment of whether or not you are moving to determine floors climbed. So for me at least it doesn't add floors climbed when I use the lift or when I am driving but it does when I walk up the stairs. The VO2 max calculation doesn't take account of climbs to the best of my knowledge - just uses HR data and weight etc
  • More features more stress? :)
