The Running Power Connect IQ Apps are now available!

Current Compatible Devices:
  • Forerunner 935
  • fenix 5 series
  • fenix Chronos
Connect IQ data fields:
  • Current Running Power
  • Current Lap Running Power
  • Last Lap Running Power
  • Average Running Power
  • Combo Running Power
We have also published a series of FAQ. They can be found here.
  • Import of the ft file works with another plugin:
    https://zonefivesoftware.com/sporttr...in-fit-devices

Display of the different custom tracks in the fit file with the plugin I mentioned above.

Here is a screenshot of sporttracks 3 desktop version with the running power of my intervals yesterday:

Fantastic. Will give it a try. Thanks for the response.

Update: it looks like you also need the Custom Data Tracks plug-in to import the CIQ data, in addition to the Garmin FIT plug-in. Garmin should have made Power a native data field; CIQ has too many limitations.

I use both fields in Sporttracks for Windows and it works. However, analyzing works way better in the free Golden cheetah software. I hardly use the Stryd powercentre since importing fit files in Golden Cheetah. You can even use a R-plugin to write your own analysis software in Golden cheetah!

Golden Cheetah looks like it's intended as a cycling app more than a running app, and I prefer a running app. However, it also looks like Sporttracks (PC version) is gradually dying. I have 8 years of data to eventually migrate.

The needed plug-ins for CIQ field input into ST are not even available anymore.

I need to purchase the plugin asap - the plugin site is indicating "Closed" - is the plugin still available for sale?

  • This was reported somewhere else but the ST3 plugin you’re looking for is this one from OMB - http://h2154733.stratoserver.net/SportTracksPlugins/DownloadArea/Garmin%20FIT%20Devices%20Plugin_Setup.st3plugin
It does look like he is still working on it as he notes at the end that it is experimental.

ST3 might not be getting much love anymore, but some of the plugin guys are still active.

Two plug-ins are required actually - both from OMB. Garmin Fit and Custom Data Tracks. Both can be downloaded for 30-day trials (which I have done and can verify works with both running dynamics and power CIQ fields). Neither can be purchased currently though (OMB store is closed). See previous message; cut and paste from ST forum post in November and store is still closed. Further, those plug-ins are already years old. It looks to me that both ST (PC version) and plug-ins are dying.

Maybe Garmin will release a version of Power that will be native to FIT, and not a CIQ field. I expect that 3rd party SW could handle that implementation better.
  • Alsothis thread where he says the closure is only intended to be temporary, but he has no date for when it will end. I can imagine he might not be making enough money from them to be worth keeping it open, but if it's actually never coming back, it would be a shame if he doesn't open the licensing up. (I speak as someone who has bought several of his plugins in the past, and thought they were definitely worth the money).
  • Runalyze does support Garmin Running Power now.
  • Indeed, that was fast ! Now to try to make some sense from that data ;-)
  • Anyone know if Power will eventually be a native field in FIT 2.0 files, as opposed to a CIQ data field? I like the metric but 1) some 3rd party apps can't read a file with CIQ fields in it (ie Sporttracks) and 2) there is a Garmin limitation on using only two CIQ data fields per activity (and that includes the same CIQ field on different screens in the same activity). It's constraining to me, and I hope this is a first step rollout of Power as opposed to its final implementation.
  • I recall reading on a recent DC Rainmaker piece that some discussions are going on about a standard for running power so maybe on the first point. The fact there isn't yet a standard is probably a good reason why it was not made standard.

If 3rd party apps can't read CIQ fields they need to get their act together as this is not a "secret". Certainly I can see all this data in the FIT File Repair Tool.
