Lock to Map Screen when using Courses

Hi, through various rounds of frustrating trial and error, I seem to have a good handle on how use courses during activities; initially using just Navigate activity with a Garmin Connect created course loaded to the FR935 and eventually working out that you can, in fact, select a Course by scrolling through settings when you initiate a Run or Ride or other activity.

The (sort of) turn-by-turn directions work pretty well but the biggest problem that I have is that I would prefer for the Map or Course Data Screen to remain as the main screen but I can't work out a way to stop the watch returning to the "Screen1" (whether it's a DozenRide screen or the default speed/distance/etc screen) after a few seconds/minutes.

I have Auto Scroll switched off but it will not stay on the map screen, so after selecting map, then riding for a few minutes and looking down, I have to scroll through the screens to map again.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong (or what the watch is doing wrong)?

Many thanks....
  • How hilly is your route? Do you have Auto Climb on for cycling?

Hmmm... now THAT is a good question thanks. At last someone having a proper think about it. Could be the case - I guess you're suggesting that with Auto Climb that the screen changes (not sure what to) when a climb is encountered and maybe doesn't change back to the same screen. Quite possible and more for me to check - yes it is set to on; but is it the root cause of the problem....?

I actually tried a "bike" course on the bus home last night to check again. I removed a bunch of superfluous data screens and fields first so just Map and the Dozen Ride screen, got most of the way home and thought it seemed fine but then I looked down and it had reverted to Dozen Ride. Sadly didn't actually see it switch back so couldn't identify the trigger.

And, timgrose, thanks for following up. If you do get the screen to stick, then please let me know what your setup is for Bike on the FR935 as it most likely differs from mine - not so much "user error" as user has no idea how to set it up right as it's not clearly documented anywhere.

Appreciate the responses folks - like I say, I'm not sure if there's a problem or if I'm just doing it wrong.
  • At last someone having a proper think about it.

There has been more than one person (ok perhaps not me) thinking about your problem and trying to assist. Your comment is a little ungracious to those others.
  • Mine was a run yesterday, I was moving screens a bit but it seemed to stay on the map page when I left it there.

If you want somebody to have a "proper think about it" raise a support ticket with Garmin.

But I will bite - if the screen is reverting to a 3rd party data field - Dozen Ride - have you contacted the developer of that to see if they are aware of any issues? Additionally try removing that field so you are just left with the standard screens - which is a far more standard setup.

It'll change to whatever screen you've set, and should change back to whatever you've set. By the sound of it that would be the defaults. Just turn it off for now and see what happens (it doesn't sound as if you're actively using it anyway, so I doubt you'll miss it).
