Lock to Map Screen when using Courses

Hi, through various rounds of frustrating trial and error, I seem to have a good handle on how use courses during activities; initially using just Navigate activity with a Garmin Connect created course loaded to the FR935 and eventually working out that you can, in fact, select a Course by scrolling through settings when you initiate a Run or Ride or other activity.

The (sort of) turn-by-turn directions work pretty well but the biggest problem that I have is that I would prefer for the Map or Course Data Screen to remain as the main screen but I can't work out a way to stop the watch returning to the "Screen1" (whether it's a DozenRide screen or the default speed/distance/etc screen) after a few seconds/minutes.

I have Auto Scroll switched off but it will not stay on the map screen, so after selecting map, then riding for a few minutes and looking down, I have to scroll through the screens to map again.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong (or what the watch is doing wrong)?

Many thanks....
  • Strange, whenever I have tried a course and put it on the map page, it has stayed there.

Can you please share the activity/course selection method as I cannot get the map screen to stick whatever I try. I can't find anything in the user manual gicing clear explanation on how to use courses during activities and there may be some good data screen setups from other peoples' experiences that work particularly well. To staet with though, if there's an activity startup sequence that you use that results in the map staying as the main screen, then please can you share?

    Thanks,

    Greg
  • You haven't got auto scroll set have you? I don't do anything different and my course always stays displayed.
  • I have Auto Scroll switched off
I'd check it to make sure.

Does it happen only when riding a bicycle or during other activities as well?

Just a theory: While riding a bike your wrist is at an angle to your forearm squeezing the watch a little and inadvertently the up/down buttons are pressed.

It's random on my 935, no rhymn or reason so far.
  • OK - so it's not just me then...

I can confirm that Auto Scroll is OFF and the button lock is ON (during activity) as I previously had that exact problem with the ride stopping and starting from glove-induced button pushes. I'll have another try tomorrow, but it's been consistently NOT staying on the map screen, Like I say, if one of the people for whom this is working as expected can share exactly the settings and sequence that they use courses during rides it might be of use. But someone telling me that they have no problem doesn't really help.

If you believe it be a problem, contact Garmin support and work with them to resolve it.
  • Somebody having no problem with something does at least suggest the problem is not systematic. In such cases, is it then device or user error... Am going to try a course shortly. Will see if can keep it on the map page if I want it there..
  • How hilly is your route? Do you have Auto Climb on for cycling?
