Quickfit band comparison and pics

So for those interested, I currently have the official garmin black silicon and leather (received today, yay!) bands and a chinese yellow/green one and thought I'd make some pics on how they look on the 935...

I actually really dig the quickfit bands, they all give the watch quite a different look. Solid black, sporty/summery/happy green/yellow and more serious leather. A chinese blue one is also on the way.

So far my impressions:

1. Chinese yellow sillicon:

The material is more flimsy. Think of wearing the official sillicon one for a few weeks after which it gets more flexible, the chinese is that + some more. I think it actually reminds me a bit of the stock non-quickfit 935 band, Surely decent enough for day to day wear and also for running and such. The clip is set with a pushpin instead of torx (same as with the nonquickfit stock one I heard?) so that construction might a but less solid. The strapholders also are a bit more loose, but the strap stays in fine though. Excellent value for money!

2. Official black silicon:

More rugged then the chinese one, a little bit too rugged/uncomfortable the first day but it loosens up quite a bit and I found it comfortable very fast. The clip is set with torx screws making it more stable I think. They are overpiced imo but I love the idea and straps.

3. Official leather one:

Looks good, very stiff though. Guess that will loosen up with a bit of time as well (and already wearing it 2 hrs makes me notice it less). Wouldn't use this for sporting, but surely for day to day wear. Overpiced imo again, but got a discount as I had to wait so long for it and had a coupon so got it half price instead which is more the proper value.

Conclusion:

Official ones ARE more rugged/decent but are overpriced. Proper pricing would be ~30 for the sillicon ones and ~50 for the leather I'd say. The chinese ones offer great value for money and I have no problem whatsoever using them for general sporting and daily wear... Perhaps going deep-see diving and such you might want to reconsider ;)

If you have any questions, shoot!

    Hi Flipstone,

Where did you order the Chinese Yellow / Green Silicon? I have purchased the Amp Yellow QF bands and it is more dull yellow rather than the lunimous colour as shown in your pic.

  • Thanks for the write up. So far I've gone down the trimmed F3 route as I prefer the look and comfort of the 26mm width and it's not been much of an investment at 2€ per strap ;-) Too bad the leather is so stiff. Do you have a link for that metal band? Thanks!

All about preferences ;) I prefer the smaller bands, my wrists are also pretty small, and I do love the quickfit kind... Don't want to think about unscrewing the things every time.

The metal one I ordered was this one: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Quick-Release-Stainless-Steel-Metal-Watch-Band-Bracelet-Strap-for-Garmin-Fenix-5/152507652415?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Was actually very nice, but as mentioned not quickfit. Color and finish (metal wasn't shiny) suited the FR935 very well though.

Oh, and I have the feeling the leather is getting less stiff already. Still quite rigid though, but the first day I had it pretty tight and actually almost couldn't get it loose again, now that goes quite a bit smoother...

First, thanks a lot for the pics!

How is the black one compared to the original one? I am a bit afraid the Quickfit mechanism might make it uncomfortable for doing sports (or require me to wear it tighter to get the OHR working)? Does the watch stand away more from the wrist due to the thicker part at the Quickfit connection?
As to the leather version it appears not to be as thick as the silicon bands at the quickfit connection. I would also expect the leather one to become softer over time - and I really really like the looks!!

I think we have a similar wrist size, mine being somewhere in between 16.5-17cm, so what's comfortable for you should be similar for me.

I have a 10% discount for the Garmin shop and close to pull the trigger on the black and leather one. The original one fits perfectly, I just don't like its design so much.

@FlipStone - thanks for the link, I wonder why they call it "Quick-Release-Steel-Metal-Watch-Band-Bracelet-Strap-for-Garmin-Fenix-5-With-Tool" did you complain when you got it and found out it wasn't "quick" ? Good to know it fits well.

As a side note the "Chinese QF" straps are now down to €2.50 ! Might get one (although having a single QF strap is rather useless!) to check that the big rounded pin in the bukcle doesn't dig into my wrist like the one on the F5...

Hmmm, the original one was thinner, more flexible/flimsy. I liked the quickfit version more, also made the watch itself look more decent. I have had no issues at all wrt quickfit versions being uncomfortable btw, perhaps the first day with the leather one and the first hour with the silicon one but really hardly. I'd have to measure my wrists but it could be that having these small wrists is a blessing here as the quickfit-thicker-part is not digging into my wrist at all (the watch itselfs extends a bit beyong, so the 'potention annoying part' is hovering a bit).

I'll measure my wrists and try to make a clear(er) picture this evening about what I mean...

No worries! My discount was with the retailer (for waiting so long) and a coupon from the same store... (through a savings action with my bank ;) ).

I knew it wasn't the real quickfit btw so no complaints, the pictures were clear. The quickrelease was about the way you put it on your wrist. Back then there were no 3rd party quick release bands yet so I got exactly what I expected ;)

I received a promotional email from Garmin a few days ago with a 10% off coupon for the QuickFit bands.

Someone had test this not genuine bands ? http://amzn.to/2tMFtTL
  • Great to hear it helped, I actually broke the metal one trying to 'modify' it into a quickfit band but here are the pics I took back then (band was not fit to my wrist then though, so very loose... but at least an impression):

Thank you! That's the same band style I purchased for my 735XT. Looks even better suited on the more impressive footprint of the 935.

Awesome thread. Thanks for the contribution!
