Screen flickering?

i noticed that my FR935 screen is flickering. it's best noticeable when the background is set to white and the background light is off and the screen is viewed with a bit of an angle. my screen caught my eye while driving and my wrist was angled.

i found a thread in Fenix 5X with people reporting the same issue.
https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?374243-F%E9nix-5x-screen-flickering

anyone else having the same issue? it has been suggested in Fenix 5X thread that this would be a battery saving feature, but then others say that their screens are perfectly fine.

here's a video from the original poster in the other thread

Same here, only with white background.
  • I wanted to switch Fenix 5X for 935 for this reason, but from what i can understand all Fenix 5x/5/5s and 935 are affected by this problem... maybe it's just the screen technology...
  • My screen flickers as well on the 935 white background, I am sending Garmin at their request of a video, when I called a week ago my call was the first the technician had heard of it. If your screen is flickering I would suggest letting Garmin know.
  • It does not matter if the background is white or black, all white (or even light) pixels are flickering when background light is off. This can be easily observed by disabling all background light settings (at least for keys and gestures in watch mode) and choosing different watch faces from Connect IQ: the ActiFace shows most of the screen in black, but you may see the flickering in the area of the graph as soon as you have chosen bright colors for this screen element...

...so what to do now, Garmin? Should everyone send in their watches to produce a lot of work for the customers, the distributors and garmin as well? An official statement would be fine to be informed, if this can be solved by a software fix or it is a hardware issue - and how to deal with it.
  • Seems to be fixed with Beta 4.02 (Fixed an issue where the device screen seems to pulsate when using a white background in low power mode)!

Mine flickers too. Only shows when the background is white and the watch is at an angle so doesn't affect usability. Also seems like it may be sorted in the latest beta although I'm not sure what "low power mode" is.
  • Doesn't "Low Power" kick in clock mode after 10 seconds ?

The pulsating is not only visible there unfortunately, but at least they've acknowledged the issue.
  • They've not just acknowledged the issue, its fixed as well. Loads of reports in the F5 thread.

Are you certain? I don't think this beta version has been released for the f5

Hm, I have a Forerunner 935, had flickering, have installed the beta, don't see flickering anymore. So that's why I wrote the posting above - not sure about the reasons for the other messages
