Course fails to transfer

Dear all, I'm running into trouble sending a course to my Frontrunner. I've previously transferred other courses to the watch successfully, but this one doesn't seem to work..
Both syncing the course through Garmin Express, or through the iOS Connect app fails with the following error: "Some files could not be sent to your device: courses (transfer error)"

The course in question is: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/15166969

Could some of you please attempt to sync the course to their watches, so I know if the problem is specific for my device? Any other advice is also appreciated!

Thanks a lot in advance!
  • Can you transfer other activities and courses?

Maybe you had a bad file "in the way" somewhere.

What is in NEWFILES? If there is something in there then suggest to delete it.

Also has your steps and 24x7 gone up OK? Those files are in the MONITOR folder.

Also in the GARMIN folder is there any partial new release files that will be GUPDATE something. The "proper." one is a .GCD which should not be there if you have 3.30.

Also is there anything in REMOTESW? That's where the update files go for the other components like GPS, WHR, WiFi, BLE/ANT, CIQ etc. Should not be anything in there but if there is might be worth deleting it.
  • Other activities/courses transfer fine.

I emptied the COURSES folder and the NEWFILES folder, but that didn't help. No GUPDATE files or anything in the REMOTESW (except EPO.bin).

The SEGMENTS folder is full of files though. Can I safely delete those?
  • I reset my watch, but no dice ;(

Would appreciate if you could talk to some Garmin folks for me, Tim :) I've contacted Garmin support as well..
  • Just seen your note on this.

So, to be fully clear, you are only having a problem with this one course? Any other course transfers fine as does activities, steps, 24x7 HR etc etc ?

One thought if you go onto GC https://connect.garmin.com/modern/ and check the "Device Sync" queue 3rd icon down on the left hand side, is there anything there for your 935 that might be "stuck" and you could try removing?
  • I just tried another long course and also this one gives an error. The same one I mentioned previously.
Here's the other course that doesn't sync: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/10528039

There's nothing in my sync queue, I checked it was empty prior to transferring the courses. All other info syncs just fine. 24/7 HR, steps, floors, activities, workouts.

After I get the error message, I checked the NEWFILES folder and see the following:

So files are being transferred to the watch. After disconnecting, the watch is unresponsive for a while or crashes (stays on the 'charging screen' indefinitely). When it doesn't crash, the course still doesn't appear under Navigation --> Courses.

[edit] actually, it didn't crash.. I left it for 2 to 3 minutes and it eventually came back to life. Still no course though..
  • That is a lot of "NEWFILES"

What do you think they all are?

Might be courses, segments, activities all waiting to be processed into the appropriate folder. They should not still be there after the watch is disconnected from USB and processed them.
  • I suppose it's the course & the segments/segment leaders etc.
After disconnection from USB and re-connection they are indeed gone.

Any chance you could hook me up with a Garmin Tech?
  • Have notified them of your issue. Will of course relay any feedback/request for further info if and when I get it.
  • Thanks a lot!
I really hope they can solve the issue, as this severely hampers my cycling trips in places where I don't know the way.. The FIT export is a workaround, but definitely not ideal (missing elevation data and probably turn-by-turn navi).
  • a quick FYI: the 4.10 update seems to have fixed the issue!:cool:
