Why i love my screen protector

Reasons why I love my screen protector, see photo, in particular top of the watch face. I wear my 935 24/7, have done so since I received it a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I accidentally banged my wrist on our granite countertop edge, the 935 sustained zero damage. Had I not had this screen protector on, no doubt the screen could have been scratched up/cracked, and for $7.99 I have a new Rerii screen protector made for the 735 on the way from Amazon. I have found that this size glass screen protector fits very well. The light reflecting on the watch screen are the undercabinet lights reflecting so please ignore.
  • and this is why I scrapped protectors. Even the smallest gap gathers dust and looks crap IMHO.

Agreed for me on this. It's also why I prefer a "pouch" case for my phone so can pull it out and use it "as is".

But fascinating how big this thread has become - second only (of active threads) to those disappointed with a F5 and so joining us with a 935.
  • Just applied my brotect protector as well, indeed minimal gap (causing me to apply it a bit off centre) but certainly something I can live with...

Also, no clue how I'd have to get it off if there wasn't a gap so maybe it's also not without reason.

Just feels more secure this way, don't notice any difference in clarity or whatever and as I tend to sell my gear quite often it's nice that the actual display now has some protection.

interestingly, the Exuun comes with a small suction cup which presumably can be used for protector removal (no instructions in this regard, however).

one thing i have noticed about the Exuun is that it doesn't show as many fingerprints/dirt/oil as the naked screen. so maybe the slight lack of transparency is due to the coating on the protector?
  • I don't noticed much difference. The decrease in finger prints is well worth any slight difference in viewing.

These pictures also re-affirm my decison. The F5 seems a bit 'over the top' for my needs and style.

Olu: thanks so much for taking the time take this pictures and share them. the decrease in fingerprints is noticeable (i used to be wiping my screen all the time with my shirt) and i'm guessing that the coating on the protector is responsible for both this decrease and slight decrease in clarity.

i'm thinking/hoping that i'll get used to it. if the watch had come this way, i wouldn't have thought much of it, but i did notice the change "before/after" during the installation process.

one thing i haven't noticed in the first day is any notable collection of dust at the protector/bezel interface thus far.

thanks again for taking the time to compare for me.
  • - it appears to me that the optical clarity is definitely reduced with the protector on. i wasn't expecting this to occur (based on my experience of putting a glass protector on my iPhone) but maybe this is due to the passive e-ink display. it seems like it "muted out" the screen a little. maybe along the lines of what was discussed previously on the Fenix 5 forum about the difference between the mineral glass and sapphire glass faces.

I haven't noticed any difference in optical clarity before and after installing the Exuun screen protector. However, it is very fingerprint-resistant and it sheds water very well. Even though I didn't center mine, I haven't noticed any dust build-up in the ~1mm 'exposed' area.

    So far, so good.
  • same here with the BROTECT. happy camper :)

Same on the Exuun clarity- I haven't noticed any difference. You can obviously tell there's an extra layer of glass between the screen though, so that might be why people don't feel it "pops" the same. But it's crystal clear glass so I'm good with it. I can't tell if it's better or worse for fingerprints- but I know I can wipe the fingerprints off without worrying I might scratch the screen in the process. Much nicer
  • So i scratched my screen protector already. Was pissed as my bike inner ring bent and damaged my bike frame and probably hit the watch against something sharp while fixing the bike.
Got me curious so after I replaced it i tried to scratch it some more.. and the glass is surprisingly good.

screw driver test - cannot scratch
    razor blade/exacto - cannot scratch
    various steels - cannot scratch

I applied a lot of pressure while going on the edge and eventually the protector cracked.. but no scratch.
Finally, I used my diamond file and that scratched it immediately (nothing surprising here though).

Basically, I wonder how i even scratched it against the bike components at this point ;-)

The protector was/is the exuun at https://www.amazon.com/Exuun-Forerunner-Protector-Ultra-Thin-Hardness/dp/B06ZXTVX1P/
