FR 935 for everyday wearing?

Hello there,
since I'm looking for a substitution of my (defective) fenix 3HR, I was originally going for the Fenix 5/5s, but then I noticed the coming release of the FR 935 which seems to have gained all characteristics of the fenix series (particularly wrist HR and barometer), but in a cool thinner and lighter (plastic) body.
Since I usually have the watch on 24h, often using smartwatch, step counting/HR during the day and sleep tracking, it is a nice plus to me for the watch to be disguisable as an everyday "fashionable" watch, and being this model less bulky than fenix series is an interesting feature.

However, In all reviews I see around, I don't see any mention of the FR 935 to be considerable as an everyday watch: is it so clear by looking at it that it is a sportwatch, more than it is for the fenix 5/5s? I don't get the difference, since referring to the "all black" version, seems quite neutral and somehow elegant.

Any detail on this from the owners? Nobody around using it off the trails?

Thank you guys!
  • Only thing I really don't like is the size of the display surround between the display and the bezel. This looks much better on the fenix 5.

Agreed, although using a black watchface does minimize it for me... but indeed, looks so much like useless wasted space...
  • We should post wrist diameter with pics since these are fairly big watches :)

You don't want to be judging size from photos, especially close-up ones taken on mobile phones as perspective drastically accentuates the size of the watch compared to the wrist. Take a close up photo of your current watch on your wrist, now look at yourself wearing your watch from about a meter away in a mirror and compare the difference.
  • my only minor wish is for someone to come out with an affordable leather band (black) that might work well with it. i don't think the metal band from the Fenix 5 would fit the plastic face very well, but maybe someone can try that out and convince me otherwise (although i'm not sure i'm willing to pay the price for it!)

I quote, I'm very curious about seeing it with leather (may be black?) bands mounted. Didn't see one yet.

    Fenix 5 and Forerunner 935 Side-by-side

Here is a photo I took while I had both watches.

Left is the Fenix 5 Sapphire
    Right is the Forerunner 935

    Enjoy
  • I am really torn between the fenix 5 and 935. I have got both in person and cannot decide.

935 is more comfortable but the fenix 5 looks much nicer.

    I am coming from a fenix 3.

Why are you buying the watch? To look nice with smart clothes or to be comfortable when you are exercising?
  • Why are you buying the watch?

That's a mighty good question. Most consumers want ‘everything’ or the ‘best of both (or all) worlds’, but most of them will have to accept some level of compromise, especially when purchasing off-the-shelf products instead of ordering bespoke at a premium. I don't understand why it would be so difficult to decide between two alternatives on the market, when the individual consumer knows exactly what his/her requirements and use cases are; and, in this case, the product specifications are known and samples that can be physically inspected do exist.

Comfortable due to the weight, or another reaso?

I am of course buying the watch for what it is designed for (sports), but as it will bee my device I use all the time, aesthetics are important, too.

Coming from the fenix 3, I really liked the aesthetics and design. Hence why I thought that the fenix 5 was a logical upgrade. I was looking forward to wearing the watch with the quick release stainless steel link bracelet and rubber straps, too (versatility).

Pros of the 935 are that is is more comfortable on my wrist. It is lighter, I can sleep with it on, etc. I don't think I can wear the fenix 5 pretty much 24/7 like the 935.

I did think I can use the quick release 22 straps with the 935, adding some variation, but I found the QR straps actually uncomfortable with the 935 (but okay with the fenix 5).
  • Now having another day under my belt, I do miss the looks and feel of the F5. I still think those are not worth the tradeoff in thinness/lightness/humbler design.

One thing that bothers me is the cheap-feeling strap. I miss the F3 strap - the F3HR and then F5 had progressively worse straps, but F5 strap still better than 935 strap.

Anyone know where I can get a strap like the F3's that fits the 935? The quickfit 22 has a the gray buckle that doesn't match the 935's silver buttons/trim and has the thicker ends that don't allow the watch to sit flat when folded. Not to mention the price...
