Turn by Turn Navigation

Anyone know if you can get turn by turn navigation like on the f3 from a TCX or GPX file?
  • What exactly do you mean by a "GPX course from Strava". One of:

GPX download of your own activity (this would have speed info - which you will need)
GPX download of somebody else's activity (this would NOT have speed info - which you will need to "make up")
    Strava route export

KALAMARIOS, I don't have the links to post just now but they are here in other posts. Import your GPX into RideWithGPS and go from there.
  • I just tried this function out here while on holiday in a place I don't know. It just works so sweet - kudos Garmin :-)
  • Such a great feature... This would almost be a reason to get this watch over the 235 (which I own right now). Due to dwmap not quite yet, but still. The itch is there ;)

I might be stocking up on 910XT's, Virtual Partner, TE, barometric altimeter and USD99.00 refurbished with 1yr warranty, it can't get better than this.

Hi Tim, sorry for the confusion. I meant Strava route export, meaning route with no speed information. My understanding is that some tools allow you to "inject" speed information to GPX tracks that come "speedless" from lets say Strava Route Export.
  • If you are going to the trouble of creating a Strava route then my advice would be to do the same using the course creator in GC and then you won't need to bother with any "tricks" or "workarounds" etc etc

No custom cues out of GC/GE though, that's why the tricks and workarounds exist, they aren't difficult to use and the result is very satisfying.

But isn't that what we have been talking about for 8 pages. Courses sent to a 735 from GC do add navigation turn cues for you.

Yes, GE will add some cues but not custom cues. The Edge 25 gets only a few at the beginning and a few at the end of a course. The nice thing with custom cues, only available through other tools (GTC can, but limited map layers to assist with placing them), is that you can place them anywhere you want. You could place them every 1km with the text a pace time rather than use them for turn directions.

RWGPS and BRT can offset them automatically if you want them coming up before a turn.
