In GC, you can only create a course from an activity already in GC or use the course creator.

What you tried should work in theory.

What was the source of the TCX file however? It would need to have meaningful timestamp as well and lon/lat data.

Ah that exports a Course TCX file not an Activity one.

That site seems to be setup only for Edge devices which have TCX parsers but the 735 does not - you can only directly put a course FIT onto the device manually.

I converted your course TCX to an activity FIT file using the FIT File Repair Tool which you should be able to import into GC and create a course from with the turns added.

Similar problem - GPX files usually just describe the route (i.e. lon/lat data) but don't tend to have timestamp data so it can't be an "activity".

Sigh... I guess it would be too much to ask for Garmin Connect to support importing .tcx courses and activity files into their courses feature. Make it easy to use, you know?

I must say the course creator in GC works really well! I've been using that, just recreating any previous courses from MapMyRun/RideWithGPS to cut out the bother with importing.

Tim, the course you made for me worked perfectly today on a 62 mile charity ride. In fact it prevented me from going off course early on when I followed a bunch of cyclists past a turn and the 735 buzzed me right away and said "Off course".
