645M and Spotify playlists : "Unable to download certificates"

Had a refurbished 645M sent to me today but can't download my playlists using Spotify. I've updated software using Express, linked to my home wifi network, successfully checked connectivity on my watch, but when i try to download i get a spinning "searching for wifi networks" message before an error showing "Unable to download certificates" comes up. Any help would be appreciated. My original 645M, returned because of the broken band mounting issue, didn't have this problem.

  • I just bought a 945 today and am having the same issue. I found a few other people on reddit who have different models and are having the same issue

  • I also have a refurbished Venu and I'm having the exact same problem.  The watch can't connect to WiFi at all and it's always the same error "Unable to download certificates.

  • Same issue as well, using Amazon Music on a new to me refurbished 645m. When testing the WiFi connection it says successful.

  • I just bought a forerunner 245 Music and I get the same error when try to download a playlist from DEEZER

  • Got it working I think. Deleted the Amazon app from the watch, deleted the WiFi connection. Recreated WiFi connection and re-installed Amazon app. Seems to be downloading music okay now.

  • Out of nowhere and thru nothing I’ve done it’s now decided to sync no problem. I guess just keep trying!

  • I live in the UK and recently recieved a Venu as a gift. I had the same problem, but we found a workaround last night! After reading this post:

we decided to see if setting up a VPN to route through Spain might work (since nothing else seemed to!) Not only did it sync with Spotify and download the songs I wanted, but now I can also connect to my normal Wi-Fi in my home and it all works perfectly.

It seems strange, but the steps appear to be:

    1. Download VPN software (e.g., a VPN app) on your phone, then set it up to go through Spain

    2. Set up a hotspot using your phone (it'll probably be somewhere in Settings > Tethering)

    3. Using your Garmin watch and Garmin app (I have a Venu), connect to the hotspot, then try again to download music / podcasts with Spotify

    I hope that makes sense.

This worked for us, and - as I mentioned above - I no longer need to connect to a VPN every time; I can just use my normal Wi-Fi at my home, and it works exactly as you'd want it to.

  • I tried syncing with Spotify using my home Wi-Fi the normal update, logout of everything etc., reinstall everything etc. procedures; nothing worked (numerous times, hours lost). The only thing that worked was using my phone as a hotspot point. Sync happened seamlessly using my phone as a hotspot; frustrating and arguably not good enough considering the price of the watch but happy I got there in the end.  (Vivoactive 3 Music).

  • Hi this was also the same for me 4 hours in I used my phone to hotspot it to connect and worked.

holy hell what a waste of time! Off for a run now it blow off some steam
