Activity memory almost full, upload to garmin connect

Got a message similar to the text above on my 645 after a run this evening. Bit strange as the watch is paired to my phone so activities get uploaded automatically as soon as I get back within range of it.

When I got home, I connected the watch to my PC to check the space and indeed the 19Mb of space available is almost full! Almost all the space was taken up by the GARMIN\Activity folder which was 17.1Mb and contains every activity (143) I've done since I got the unit on March 13th! I've just manually deleted all these files as they've all been uploaded to Connect already but surely this should have been handled automatically as it was on my previous 620?

Thank you for the offer but I won't be seeing the message again as I've a reminder in my calendar to clear out the Activities folder manually on the 1st of each month.
  • Any further developments on this topic. Today on my Garmin 645M I received the following message: "Activity storage almost full. Upload to Garmin Connect." All activities are already uploaded to Garmin connect through Bluetooth or Garmin Express. Activities folder contains FIT files going back to the day I got the watch. The wording of the message isn't very helpful.

So, do I need to manually delete my older FIT files or will the watch automatically do this?

    Thanks,
    Mike
  • Wow, that's interesting. I just checked my FR 645 (no music) and I have 195 files in my Activity folder taking 12.5MB memory. Oldest file is from June 25.

As mentioned earlier I've got a reminded in my calendar to clean out the folder every month until I hear that this has been resolved. Wasn't a problem with my previous 620 as it cleaned up itself. It's not like it is hard to test this scenario on Garmin's side!
  • I have the same issue. It seems the algorythm to delete the oldest activity when the memory is always full is flawed. It’s fine when uploading new activities, but anything else that needs new storage (e.g. an update via Garmin Express) fails with a message to free up memory yourself first.

Garmin, why not add a setting where you can specify the maximum age of en activity on your watch, after it has already been uploaded to Garmin Connect? I like the have actvities of the last few weeks availabke on my watch, but older ones can be removed automatically.

It may have something to do with race a previous activity.

I hope a previous activity normally is not a few weeks old?

I’ve owned a VA HR and FR610 and never had an issue with the watch’s memory becoming full.

I've never used that function when I ran into the bug originally. My old 620 never had this issue so presume something is flawed with the logic to remove old files. I delete everything but the last weeks worth of activities at the start of every month manually now to avoid it happening again.

Don't believe Garmin have every said there's a problem or released a fix?
