Battery Drain

Just got my 645 yesterday. I charged it up to 100% and played with the settings some. Today I logged two different activities totaling 45 minutes, neither using GPS but listening to music for 25 minutes. I just noticed that it was on 10%. Thought maybe the bluetooth earbuds didn't disconnect so I checked in settings - they were. I did notice that for my Scoshe Rhythm HR that it said "searching", even though I turned off the Rhythm after the workout. Is that why it drained?

I tried to cycle the power to see if that would help but now it won't even turn on at all even though a minute ago it said 10%.

I fully charged my battery last night and slept with the watch as I wanted to try sleep tracking. I did a 10 mile run this morning (my first run with the watch) which took 2 hours with GPS and no music and my battery was at 10% when I finished and it died on the 1/2 hour ride home.
  • I took my watch off the charger around 22:00 last night, ran a marathon, and posting this about 6 hours post-race and I'm down to 66%. GPS time was probably 3:50 total between the race time and when I started the app before the start.

So maybe 12 hours of GPS time would've been possible if I had taken it straight off the charger to the race. For reference I had an HRM-Run strap and Tempe sensor paired. Don't know if that affects battery drain for good or ill just giving a complete picture.

Congratulations on the marathon! 1/3 of the battery is pretty good, everything considered. Would you agree?

Were you happy with how the watch performed during the race?
  • The watch performed flawlessly and agree that a third of a charge for 19 hours with GPS on for nearly 4 hours is pretty good.. My only complaint is that I'm a dummy who forgot to set the "save to file" option of the running power data field.
  • I had nearly the same experience as the OP. I got the 645 yesterday, and charged it to 100% and loaded music, and applied at least one firmware update. This morning, I went for a ~45 minute run with music playing for ~1 hour. When eating breakfast, I noticed the battery was down to 38%. I got the 10% warning a little later, then the watch shut down. After re-charging the watch to 100%(and applying another f/w update), the battery has been fine for the rest of the day (99% after ~5 hours). I'm hoping that this is just "early firmware" glitching.

  • I was having some significant battery drain issues. I ended up doing a delete data and reset settings. Which wiped the watch, and fixed my drain issue.
  • Sunday 3/11 9PM - charged FR645M to 100% then have worn in 24x7 since

Monday 3/12 6am - 20 minute elliptical workout with Wahoo Tickr X HRM
Monday 3/12 8pm - 20 minute spin bike workout with Wahoo Tickr X HRM

Tuesday 3/13 6am - 20 minute elliptical workout with Wahoo Tickr X HRM
Tuesday 3/13 5pm - 10 minute outdoor run (GPS & Music) with Wahoo Tickr HRM
Tuesday 3/13 8pm - 20 minute spin bike workout with Wahoo Tickr X HRM

Wednesday 3/14 6am - 20 minute elliptical workout with Wahoo Tickr X HRM

    Wednesday 3/14 7am - battery down to 42%

    Using custom watch face: Royal
Backlight settings: 8 seconds/no gestures when no activity; 8 seconds/gestures with activity
    WiFi connectivity: enabled

Likely to still be interacting with the watch a bit more than normal as I am still in the early stages of ownership

Battery drain seems a little higher than expected, but not as bad as some are experiencing.

    Alex

  • wow, reading what some of you are getting leads me to believe I got a lemon.

today I did a 1 hour indoor strength work out, having charged to %100 in the morning, by evening I was at %10.

think it might be time to reach out to Garmin.

swm10021 Your battery drain does appear to be well outside the norm. We would encourage any user that is experiencing higher than expected battery drain to reach out to Product Support. This will allow more information to be collected so that this can be investigated (might require an exchange to get the specific device in).

I just wanted to follow up on my first message to say that I am no longer having battery drain issues with my 645M. After the first run where the battery drained in about 2 hours it has been fine ever since. I wasn't worried to be honest and I must say I really love this watch! I am coming from a Forerunner 220 so this watch is pretty awesome and I am playing with it every free moment!
