Battery Drain

Just got my 645 yesterday. I charged it up to 100% and played with the settings some. Today I logged two different activities totaling 45 minutes, neither using GPS but listening to music for 25 minutes. I just noticed that it was on 10%. Thought maybe the bluetooth earbuds didn't disconnect so I checked in settings - they were. I did notice that for my Scoshe Rhythm HR that it said "searching", even though I turned off the Rhythm after the workout. Is that why it drained?

I tried to cycle the power to see if that would help but now it won't even turn on at all even though a minute ago it said 10%.

It should only be searching for the Scoshe Rhythm if your in the activity menu or sensors menu in settings.
  • I'll throw out my usual advice regarding power drain following a firmware update. Do a full power off/on cycle, or soft reset as some call it. Even though the watch reboots after installing the update sometimes some process doesn't end or something that'll cause odd behavior or battery drain.

I've found with multiple Garmin devices over my time using them that sometimes odd things happen after an update that are resolved with a simple power cycle.
  • I've posted on a different thread that with 4 exercises (elliptical, spin bike, 10 minute run with GPS, walk with music) I saw ~25% battery drain over 24 hours. So I am not seeing excessive battery drain. Am on Firmware 2.4

I don’t have one yet, but my experience with the previous few generations is that the first few charges don’t get as much life from the device as I expect it should. Then things settle down. This might just be because you tend to play a lot more with things initially, or the way the battery technology works. Not sure. Either way, perhaps give it a few charge cycles of usage to see where things end up.
  • I just did a 1h 37m work out, playing music but no GPS (it was an indoor work out)

I started at %100 and ended with %62.

Doesnt seem right to me, can not image what a 3hr outdoor run with music will like.

Anyone else experiencing this level of battery drain?
  • I did a 2h run with GPS + music today and battery dropped from 87% to 55%, seems to be okay.

Yeah, this is very typical from not just Garmin devices, but anything with a brand new lithium ion battery. The first few days are just going to be bad; it's more noticeable on phones because they suck down juice way faster than these watches, but yea. Have to give it a few charge cycles to settle in.

I used to use a 235 .I do two 45 min runs with GPS, a 45 min walk with GPS and a 1.5-3 hour run on Sat. Battery so far seems about the same or slightly shorter on the 645M. I am looking at 6 days or so of battery life which is what I used to get on the 235 .I don't really use the music function .Maybe that is the drain?
  • Hi all, I had the 645M for a few days now. I had the watch charged up to 100% in the morning. I notice the battery do drain pretty quickly, listening to 45 minutes of music and 60 minute of GPS activity in the morning, the battery drained to about 75%. Coming from a 935, I think I may be spoiled by the great battery life.

Is this inline with what others are experiencing with battery on your 645M?

I use about 10% for every 30 minutes of GPS activity with music plus roughly 9-10% per day. Both appear to be in line with the specs quoted. In my case if I run every 2nd day with music I am down to about 10% left after 6 days. Not all that much different to my FR235 bought in 2015, given the music part.
