Hi,
I just need to find new headphones for the 645.
Any experiences with the Garmin list or any other models?
Thanks, Jol
  • Did a 6 miles outdoor run this morning with the Plantronics Backbeat fit, watch on left wrist. Worked great and no cut outs. Hope Garmin can also fix the Airpods in next upgrade.

I love my Aftershokz. I marvel that so many people run with ear buds and are clueless when it comes to situational awareness. I am a runner and am not an audiophile, they work for me. 11-12 hours use before recharge. Have been using them for about 3 months with my FB Ionic. Around 600 miles no drops!
My 645 arrives today, The only way I can check out will be setting some prompts while running. Maybe I Heart will show up in the next couple of weeks. Had run over 88,000 miles w/o music mainly because I have found being situationally aware has enabled me to have run on the roads for almost 42 years. Hopefully folks with earbuds at least run facing traffic and use lights/ bright colors when out on the road- day or night. Nick

Nick, I too like hearing my surroundings and I am thinking of the aftershokz - there are 2 that are listed on the "approved" Garmin list - which do you have? Trekz titanium or the Trekz Air? Are they comfortable?

I tried the After Shokz (on Garmin's recommend list) today and they worked perfectly. I was skeptical they would sound good because it's a bone-conduction headphone, but I'm impressed. They have a similar sound and weight to the Backbeat Fits, but do not go in or around your ears, allowing you to maintain awareness when running on the roads.

Heatherw2 - I bought the Titanium ~$100 and had a lot of dropouts on the left wrist, put 645m on right and perfect.
Went on a 10 mile run today and no issues, they were comfortable. Have used for 8+ runs and yes, they are comfy.
I am returning them thought because reports are that the Air (~$180) is more comfortable, not quite as much 'pinch' when in place (did not bother me) and they hang a little higher around the back of the head. I also heard they have less Bass, but I am okay with that. I will update once I have them and used for a run or two.
To me, the extra cost will be worth it to not have drop-outs with watch on the left wrist and NO wires !
  • Skull Candy Smoking Bud 2 work perfectly while running - slight dropout when walking with my arms next to my body (but im tall), sound quality is very good, they are extremely comfortable as well - for the price I cant fault them.
  • Anyone have headphones that don’t drop/stutter at all when the watch is worn on the left wrist for outdoor running? Seems like most of them work better with the watch on the right wrist, unfortunately.

Skull Candy Smoking Bud 2: Slight stutter while walking (arms way down by my side) or stretching with arms outsteched (but im tall) perfect sound while running with watch on left wrist.

I have the Trekz Air, and not the Titanium. The Airs are the newer model and the one on Garmin’s recommend list.
  • I Have Xiaomi Wireless Bluetooth 4.1 Music Sport Earbuds. Perfect on running, some dropouts while walking, but really minor dropouts.
  • The Bose Soundsport Wireless have worked perfectly with watch on the left wrist for me.

Not for me, works fine with the watch on right wrist.

    FW version 2.5
  • Very happy! Zero dropouts on run with Jaybird Freedom Special Edition (which is earlier version of Freedom 2).
Firmware 2.5, watch on left wrist, earphones under ear (with controller on right side), no dropouts during run (8.4km).
Last 100m walking slight dropouts with arm down beside my body. No dropouts whatsoever throughout the entire 48 minute run.

Battery drain: from 95% to 80% (seems to fit well with the expected battery life as indicated by Garmin).
Started music before run, then ran for 48 minutes, and left music on for a little longer. So music for an hour, and run with GPS for 48 minutes, with lap notifications every 1km (distance 8.4km).
Not connected to phone. Heart rate monitoring set to Smart (not 1 sec).
Note, dont know if it relevant: first time I use the watch, so also on it's first battery cycle.

    Edit:
using the Jaybird Freedom controller: volume up and down controls work, as well as play/pause, BUT skipping to next song (double click) or restarting current song (triple click) do not seem to work. Are there any settings I should change/check to resolve this?
