Have been having the same issue with my wife's Forerunner 45s (Emailed Garmin customers services but no reply so far) however, my wife noticed this appeared to be linked to the step counter function.
Even though she'd never set a daily step target there appears to be a default target and when reached the watch switched off - and then repeatedly switched off until the following day i.e. the step counter reset itself.
As with all of the previous reports - the battery level was full or good when switched back on.
She has now set the step target to a completely unreachable number and so far the watch has not switched itself off. This does appear to be something that happened after a software update and as such it should be something Garmin can fix with simple patch.

I checked the software version...it is 5.4
Happened two times to me. My Forerunner 45s just turned off while running even though it was almost fully charged. Only turned back on when I plugged it in back home. I'm on v. 5.40. I've had it for around 3 years. Garmin-Sierra

I had this same problem, and eventually gave up on getting a solution. I dug the watch out a couple of weeks ago to see if it had had an update or improved at all, but first run out , fully charged, turned off when it hit the 1km mark.
I then tried turning off anything I thought might be causing it, and specifically turned off the "lap" alert, so it did not vibrate and alert me when I got to each km. Since then I have managed two runs, of 6km and 10km, with no problems at all. It may be luck/coincidence, so if anyone out there has this issue, but is happy to have a go, try turning off the "autolap" function - you have to Start aan activity, and go into the options, and change the settings in "Laps" to Auto Lap Off. I did change other things, but I'm sure that is the thing that has made the difference, as it seemed to turn off when vibrating for a km.
Thanks, I had the same issues, whatever I did the Garmin would always turn off after about 10 mins running. After reading your comment, I went into Garmin Connect and turning off everything I could, just leaving on GPS and Hear Rate, I have managed 2 runs of just over the hour without a problem. I'll keep testing but it looks promising at the moment.
Same here, keep turning off and having to charge it every day. My husband also has this watch, bought at the same time, no problems!
