Forerunner 235 GPS Issue

Hello everybody,

I use forerunner 235 since 3 yr, but a few month ago the gps signal was unable to receive.

I try a lot of things :
- sync with bluetooth,
- sync with app (with USB)
- Turn OFF/ON
- Try with GPS only or with glonass
- Reset to factory

Nothing change, the gps can't be receive ( only the first signal bar is blinking )

The only solution work for me is to do juste before run, a hard reboot ( long press ON/OFF button ), sync with my mobile and wait 10 minutes. After that, the GPS signal is ok ( not all the time unfortunately ).

This solution work only 1 day, the day after i must hard reset again to restore gps signal.

Anyone can help me please ?

Thanks

Jerome

  • Check older threads: GPS Issue - Forerunner 235.

Make sure if ...\REMOTESW\EPO.BIN was updated after sync.

You can also press the Activity Runner button once, to start getting GPS, and leave the watch, can be inside.

If still bad signal, then maybe check built-in antenna as someone suggested in that thread, but it requires opening the watch.

  • Thanks for your suggestion.

The EPO.BIN file is correctly update after sync

If i press the Activity button once, i try to wait outside (30 minutes) but nothing better (the first signal bar still blinking ).

if it was the built-in antenna that was faulty, I don't think a hard-reset would change anything as that is the case here

  • Just for clarification, waiting for sync has better effect when stationary, that's why mentioned leaving a watch inside as it can just lay on a table. But staying outside about at place is ok too.

Hard to guess what's actually wrong, similar thing with HR, sometimes it doesn't give real values, but stays at 161. It looks like software problem as other day HR works, but still someone mentioned that he cleaned inside connector: Tip for people having problem with optical heart rate monitor. I didn't check it yet as other things work ok for now.

  • Yesterday my watch malfunctioned a bit, was recording steps and hr correctly, but when tried to sync it didn't and no charging.

After reset it started to work ok, but time was wrong and lost steps of that day.

To get right time, it needs GPS, after such malfunction it's usually longer. So I pressed the button once before night. After first try it didn't get it - there is some time limit after it returns to main screen. On second try it got GPS and correct time.

After a watch had GPS lately, then it's faster to get it again.

So you can also try with starting the watch for GPS at home.
