Tip for people having problem with optical heart rate monitor

My chest heart rate monitor failed me recently, so I reverted to using the optical heart rate monitor on my Garmin 235. I never quite liked it as I found it rather inaccurate.

Then, I tried aligning the optical sensor on the other side of my wrist (see picture), where you sometimes take your pulse. This resulted in much improved readings. I also find it easier to peek at my watch while jogging.

  • Hi all. I just wanted to let you know of a fix for an intermittent wrist pulse meter on a 235. I had issues like it worked at the start of excercise, then froze part way.

I tried the usual,soft/ hard reset without success.

I'm quiet good at fixing things so I opened it up using a YouTube video for guidance.

There is a small cable that is connected to the optical pulse sensor, I removed it from the socket, cleaned it with alcohol and reinserted it, it worked, now it's fully working.

Give it a go if you can.
