Activity Button All of Sudden Not Working

My forerunner 235 is just over 2 years warranty, and this is what happened: in the mid of the night, it start to beep by itself. When I look at it, it's trying to record some activity. So I tried to stop it, and the Activity button just won't work!

Tried to power down? Nope, you need the activity button. Tried to hard-reset? Nope, you need the activity button. All other 4 buttons work, just this activity button, no response. So now I'm stuck!

Tried to plug it into my computer installed with Garmin Express, and it told me that "The USB device has mal-functioned and is unable to recognize."

Anybody had a similar experience?

-------

During the day I was playing with kids in the pool wearing this watch - but I've been always doing this in the last two years, run in the rain, go swimming, get wet, this is never a problem since it claims to be "Water-Proof"... Perhaps the "Water-Proof" thing won't hold after 2 years of warranty???

--------

Just a follow-up note for whoever bump into this thread: I left the watch on the counter for about a month, was even thinking to throw it away and get a new one. Then one day, I charged it up, and gave it another try, and the button works...

My guess is: water got in there, mess up with the circuits; then it dried out during this month - no idea how water can get in or out of a supposedly "sealed" watch, but it's just gone - now it functions just like new.

So just like they said: time heals everything

I found this thread, have the same problem. Activity button works once. Any solution?

I also have a FR230 with a 'works-only-once-after-reset' activity button. Anyone making progress with this?

Mine stopped working yesterday. I’d been swimming and pressed the activity button whilst in the water...not salt water though, freshwater lake. After reading comments on here I shut mine down pressing the light button for 15 seconds and left it on top the Dehumidifier unit all night. Works fine now but am looking ultimately for another Garmin that included swim function as I want to do tri next yesr

Having the same probel , but i have left my watch for about 1 year now , not in a radiator or a dehumidifier , i just left it be.

Still not working and garmin service point ca't do anything about it except from replacing it with a new one ( i have to pay for it ).

  • +1 - Came in after a surf, stopped the activity recording and everything was fine. Now....Activity button is dead. Everything else works.

Since my post above 5 months ago, the FR230 sat untouched in a drawer and I've been enjoying my Fenix 5 Pro. A couple of weeks ago, I pulled it out and it works fine. My son is now using it daily.  If you've got an alternative, the best thing to do is just wait it out.

  • Similar problem here.  Run button works one time then no reponse.  I'd worn it swimming last week (had done previously with no problems) and now same issue.  After a week it suddenly works this morning.  I won't wear it in the water again.

  • Wow interesting, kind of see a pattern here, mine is a fenix 6x pro, 29 month and experiencing the similar  problem, right outside warranty.

  • I'm having this exact issue, the activity button will only work once and will not work again until doing a hard restart. Did you find a solution?

  • No "solution". I contacted Garmin support and they sent me a warranty replacement watch.
