Activity Button All of Sudden Not Working

My forerunner 235 is just over 2 years warranty, and this is what happened: in the mid of the night, it start to beep by itself. When I look at it, it's trying to record some activity. So I tried to stop it, and the Activity button just won't work!

Tried to power down? Nope, you need the activity button. Tried to hard-reset? Nope, you need the activity button. All other 4 buttons work, just this activity button, no response. So now I'm stuck!

Tried to plug it into my computer installed with Garmin Express, and it told me that "The USB device has mal-functioned and is unable to recognize."

Anybody had a similar experience?

-------

During the day I was playing with kids in the pool wearing this watch - but I've been always doing this in the last two years, run in the rain, go swimming, get wet, this is never a problem since it claims to be "Water-Proof"... Perhaps the "Water-Proof" thing won't hold after 2 years of warranty???

--------

Just a follow-up note for whoever bump into this thread: I left the watch on the counter for about a month, was even thinking to throw it away and get a new one. Then one day, I charged it up, and gave it another try, and the button works...

My guess is: water got in there, mess up with the circuits; then it dried out during this month - no idea how water can get in or out of a supposedly "sealed" watch, but it's just gone - now it functions just like new.

So just like they said: time heals everything

I have same problem. Activity button not working and I also have Forerunner 235. My problem is just a little bit different. It all started when I finished recording activity. Then I am able to use activity button once and then its not working. So I reset it, then I am again able to use activity button but only once. After soft-reset I get on my watches time and date from the moment I finished recording my last activity.

I have exactly the same problem. Did you find a solution?

Garmin instructions say that you can swim with the FR235 but not press the buttons inside the water. I guess that pushing a button in the water weakens somehow the tightness of the watch

I just had same problem and looks like exposure to chlorine or salt can mess up the contacts - see post from garmin support below - I had the issue while surfing last week and though internittent it's not fixed yet so I am trying soaking it in fresh water now to see if it clears the crystalline deposits from the contacts...

    Hello,

I have the same problem, when I do soft reset the activity button work only one time.

    Any solution?

  • Same problem here. Activity button only works once after soft-reset.

    Any solution?.

    Thanks.

  • Just in case this is useful/other people are finding this thread, I had a similar problem recently (activity button not working properly). As per some of the comments here I just left it to dry out (I just stuck it on the radiator for a few hours) and it seems to be okay now.
