Step count gets stuck unless device is restarted - Forerunner 235

Hi, I've noticed on about 5 or 6 occasions now that my step count gets stuck and will not count any steps until I restart the device. This is very frustrating as I don't always notice until too late and I miss my step target because of this! I've had the watch just over one year.

Has anyone else reported this issue? This started happening a couple of months ago and happens intermittently. It happened once more this morning so I thought I'd report it - I looked at my watch and I had only done 53 steps! Got to play catch up now!
  • This has happened AGAIN today! Please can someone respond on this?
  • Last weekend I inadvertently restarted my watch in my sleep and the time changed without me noticing when I got up the next morning. I only noticed that the time was 24 hours or so behind that afternoon and the 5000 steps (or so) I had done so far that day only showed about 400. When I realized the time was wrong, I got a GPS signal which set the time to where it should be, and all was good from then on, but the steps were indeed only 400 (the amount I had accumulated between midnight and when I went to bed the night before) ... the 5000 steps were gone and I had to start over from 400 to reach my target.

    Max
  • OK, it just happened again today :-( I am not getting any time problems it literally just stops tracking my steps. It still syncs with my phone etc. just no step update no matter how much I march around! Restarting the watch fixes it straight away...
  • I had the same thing happen yesterday. It stopped registering steps at around 7200. I noticed after about 2k steps and had to restart. It was the first time this has happened to my watch.
  • So frustrating, this happened again today! Please help Garmin!

Does Garmin actually provide any support? I've never heard or seen that anyone received help with anything .

I'm having the same problem with my Vivoactive HR.
  • @GKG-SF: You obviously haven't read enough posts/threads in this forum to see the 1% that get attention, feedback and positive results from Garmin.

Or you could just report a fault to Product Support through the proper channel for such things, and not just post on a user-to-user discussion forum but expect Garmin to leap at the opportunity to do something.
  • @ASumgDill maybe a link to product support would be helpful instead of just a sarcastic comment?! I don't think I was able to find anywhere I could report the issue before (this post is pretty old now) but looks like there is an option to email Garmin now (maybe there was before and I just couldn't find it I don't know) so I will be doing that if the issue comes up again.

I haven't had this issue for some time now so I can only assume Garmin have released a fix for this for the Forerunner 235. Though knowing sods law I will get the problem again now!
  • @lozenge_happy
    • Here's the link to Google search for “garmin product support”
    • I wasn't being sarcastic, since that implies the use of irony. I was pointing out without any irony that there has been (a very small number of) examples of Garmin providing support/help, in response to users reporting faults/issues in this forum in a manner that is visible to others. A single counter-example is sufficient to disprove any blanket statement/claim that Garmin never provides any support/help with anything. Of course, GKG-SF did not actually make such a claim, but simply that he/she has never heard or seen any, so logically (and in good faith) he/she must simply have not read enough of what is posted in this forum.
  • Whats your firmware version?
Is it v7.5? and 7.7 is pending on your watch?!
Today mine didn't count the steps of my 10k run.

Yesterday my FR235 frozen, and i decided to update to 7.70. Installation failed at 50%. After reset, watch shows 7.5 , but if you connect it to garmin Express it says 7.7.
I left it connected to garmin express and i did the full sync of all the apps/faces updates. After that i went to the Update section into the FR235 and the installation run smothly. I'll check now if its counting steps..
