Watch keeps restarting every half a hour / loosing activity tracking data (fw 4.3)

Hi,

I bought this watch yesterday and it came with fw 4.1 / 2.50 . First day was ok, but this morning I updated to fw 4.3 / 2.60 and it keeps restarting about every half an hour.

This means loosing all data which wasn't synced yet and clearing 4 hours hr graph. So from my today 1 hour walk I have nothing tracked. As one of my priority for this watch was activity tracking this is really dissapointing.

Tried to load factory settings and removed all IQ apps, but it doesn't seems to help. Anybody had same issue?

I knew from past that software development in garmin is bad, and its quite sad that nothing changed as it seems.

It's even sadder, when you have watch working only first 10 hours after purchuase. I just hope somebody will be able to point me to older firmware so I would not need to send watch to service center...

    EDIT: Found it: http://gawisp.com/perry/forerunner/Forerunner235_420.gcd

Will try it in the evening or tomorrow. I don't have a cable now.

Nice, but... How to install it?
  • Hmm, I thought that the guide there:
    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?227684-Hard-reset-Service-menu-Data-Backup

will work for downgrade of the firmware. I followed the procedure and webupdater loaded to watch provided firmware, but after disconnecting the watch didn't update its firmware (even after reboot). :( There has to be way how to flash the file to watch...

EDIT: even the guide with putting gupdate.gcd to garmin folder doesn't work for me. Really frustrating. :-/

Edit2: I was contacted by garmin support and will try to provide them as much information as possible during tomorrow.

    Maybe a solution?

    Hi there

Well, I spent my whole day trying to figure out what is happenning and how we can bypass this problem.

I tried to downgrade the firmware with no luck.

I realized that the problem occurs only when the bluetooth is enabled (on both sides). If I disable the smartphone BT or the watch BT, the problem doens't reproduce.

I tried to reset, repair, restart the phone, the watch and the problem persisted.

Then I followed another user's advice: Unpair the watch, reinstall (delete and download) The Connect app again, and pair it THROUGH the app (and not from the Smartphone BT Config).

After that, I went into a run and 3 hours from now, the watch did not rebooted.

So far so good, but I'm still waiting for an answer from my ticket.

    Hope it help you guys

Garmin has received reports of this issue and engineering teams are investigating the root cause so that the issue can be resolved.

    Sorry to hear that.

Just to be sure, have you paired the watch using the app and not the smartphone bluetooth configuration?
  • Yep, for sure I did it like that. For you it fixed problem / no restart since?

Yesterday I turn the bluetooth on for synchro again and let it in this state for about half an hour. In this time the watch restarted twice.. So I turn it off again to have fully recorded sleep.

I was in touch with garmin social support, sent them all info I had and they let it pass to engineering team, so lets hope they will catch the issue soon. I will still have to decide soon whether to return the watch or not as I really miss notification on the watch and don't want to end up with broken device for rest of the time.

I just wish to be able to downgrade that firmware to at least test if the device can really be operational fully.

I'm having the same issue; in a 15 minute car drive the watch rebooted 3 times. Seems to happen only when my phone is connected to another BT device. Extremely annoying. My phone is a Sony Xperia Z1.

I did 3 workouts since the day I've did the procedure and no restart at all, but today I decided to use a 3rd party app (Gymtimer), plus my smartphone is connected to a bt earphone and the watch restarted, twice in less than 5 minutes.

So I turned the bt off and I could keep using it without rebooting.

I think we are narrowing the problem. Something with the bluetooth (maybe the Connect need to be updated?)

I just know that I still have the problem and +1 who wishes to downgrade to 4.20 :(

EDITED: I got like 10 reboots in less than an hour, so I had to disable bluetooth or else I was going to freak out
