Heart Rate Zones Not Updating

I've changed my RHR and MHR and calculated what my new zones should be. The first thing I did was change this in the Garmin Connect Mobile App and sync. I went on a run, and it didn't convert over to the watch. I checked the app again, it shows correct. Synced again, still didn't go to the watch. I went to the website and verified my zones are what I want on the website, and synced from the website and garmin express app on my pc. The watch still isn't updating to the correct zones. For example, i have my zone 5 to start at 178 BPM and when i look in my stats-user profile - heart rate zones, it shows my max hr correct and my rhr correct, but the zones dont show the correct ranges (zone 5 starts at 167). This is after multiple attempts to sync with two different connections (laptop and mobile app). Please help!!
  • Make an informed decision and choose one option, with the known compromise in mind

yes but in garmin connect/mobile how can i change zone percentages based on HRR? i can't find it
You can't, because the Karvonen approach is not implicitly supported in Garmin Connect Mobile as the app (or Garmin Connect itself) stands today. However, nothing stops you from using a calculator or spreadsheet to determine the HR zone thresholds in terms of Beats Per Minute, if you want to use the Karvonen approach.

and if i changhe this on the watch it will overwrite everytime i sync!
That's not true. Based on results observed in my experimentation, the values on the watch are not overwritten upon syncing with Garmin Connect Mobile if you do not go to the HR Zones section in GCM; my hypothesis is that GCM will not flag that HR zones values are something to compare with and/or sync onto the watch, unless you visit that section (or page) of the app.

So, you have practically two options, to be selected depending on your priority:
    • If you want to not worry about sync with GCM clobbering your watch's settings incorrectly, then you work out your HR zones thresholds in terms of BPM using means outside of the app (note: you can do that on the watch), and enter the values in the app. The compromise is that every time your MaxHR changes (rarely, if you determined it properly in the first place) or your Resting HR changes (which may be significantly more often), you'll need to do your calculations again and update the values in the app.
    • If you want the approach to be consistent with automatic adjustment to the Resting HR detected (or determined) by the watch from time to time, then you use the watch's user interface to set the HR zones thresholds, and refrain from going to the HR Zones section in the app.

There isn't a ‘best of both worlds’ option available to you right now.

Ok now your point is clear: thanks a lot :D

But... it's really enough just to go on the page of hr zones on the app (default or run zones) to blow up the whole sync mechanism?

You're welcome to experiment for yourself, and find out what works and what doesn't.
  • Just bought a Forerunner 55. 'Over 6 years later' and the same issue remains.  All heart rate zones on app showing the max Z1 166bpm-167bpm and all other zones the same. I've tried all the things above and none of them work. For an organisation that promotes activity, that's pretty lazy.
