Corrupt Fit file

My son did his first road race ever yesterday and was using an Edge 820. I believe that his 820 crashed right after the race and as a result his .fit file seems to be corrupt. Is there anyone that can repair it for me?

I probably wouldn't care so much about this if this wasn't his first race ever.

On a side note, his 820 seems to be crashing a lot so I suppose I'll be calling Garmin support.

    hi HogsCycling6,

Your battery state is being reported as okay, 2.74V at the start and 2.68V at then end. Reception Values are at 97%.

I've looked thru the data and can't see any drop-outs and I've also sorted out a couple of mis-reported cadence value spikes.

    Give this file a try.

    cheers

Thanks for checking out that file Mike. Are you able to look at this one as I can see that there are dropouts during the intervals at the end of the workout and this was only the day before the previous file you checked. Trying to figure out the cause of it.

    hi HogsCycling6,

Your battery state is being reported as okay, 2.78V at the start and 2.71V at then end. Reception Value started at 78% and was 94% at the end of the activity.

There are definite periods in this file where power is still being recorded - it just isn't where it would be based on the other values. This pic clearly shows what I mean.

I've rechecked your other file now that I've had more time and it's hard to tell if there are any definite complete drop-outs. There are very short periods when zero or low power values are being recorded but without knowing exactly what you were doing at that particular second, it could just be that you were coasting or not pushing as hard on the pedals.

    cheers
    Mike

Thanks for taking a look Mike. I was hoping some that some data would help point to either the Garmin or the Pioneer PM so that I can get it resolved.
In the photo you attached it definitely shows where it was producing a wrong power reading because the effort was held constant on that interval. But yeah the very first file it's hard to tell with it being a race there was constant on/off the power.
I will keep trying things out to see if I can find the cause. Cheers.

Hi, I was just wondering whether somebody would be able to help me with my file? I did 3 rides last night, 2 of which being races, gutted after my garmin decided to wipe my last race. Retrieved the deleted file but it appears to be corrupt. Thanks if anyone can help.
  • Harvey,

Unfortunately there is not any data records in the file to repair :(

    hi HarveyStroh,

The file doesn't contain a single data record - not a lot I can do to assist.

    cheers

Alright well thanks guys for taking the time. I’ll have another go at retrieving the deleted file and see if I can get anything else, if not I’m sure my coach can survive without the power data. Thanks

    Good day everyone,

I have a corrupted training file from my Edge 820. I downloaded the Access File repair tool, which fixed half my data since I did not buy a licence. Would anyone here with a liscence kindly fix my file for me since I don't want to pay 50$ for a piece of software I will most likely use only once?

    Thanks!
