No Strava Segments On Device :-(

This has had me scratching my head for over a week now . . . just cannot get the menu option to show my Strava Segments despite having the following;

  • I have connected my Strava (with Premium subscription) to my Garmin Connect Account
  • My favorited Strava Segments do appear within my Garmin Connect/Segments panel (using Windows7 PC and Chrome Browser)
  • Synchronization is confirmed when I connect my Edge 520 via USB
  • Strava Segments DO NOT APPEAR on my Edge 520 within Home/Train/Training . . . am I missing something here ??????
  •

  • (the only items listed are Courses+Segments+Workouts+Training Calendar+Indoor Trainer+Intervals+Set a Target+Locations)

Other observations & info;
Rides are updating automatically to Strava at the end of rides without problem
Edge 520 is on Software version 2.30
Garmin Express version 4.1.5.0
Garmin Connect using Modern Interface
I also have Garmin Connect on my Android (Samsung Galaxy Note 3 running Android 5.1) and is showing Strava Segments are enabled.

Anybody else getting this problem or have suggestions ?

Many thanks,

John
  • Do you have any files in the Garmin\Segments folder on the Edge?

    Hi Alan,

No, the Garmin\Segments folder on the Edge is totally empty.

    Thanks,

    John
  • When you look at Garmin Connect there is an inbox icon on the left. If there are segments waiting to be transferred they should show here. Are there any showing there?

No, I have not been able to get anything to show in the left hand inbox . . . the Strava Segments appear in their panel as hyperlinks to strava - should I somehow select segments here to get them to synchronize?
  • I had this happen the other day. Try resetting the Strava connect by doing the following.

Go to the segment widget in Garmin Connect and click on the cog icon and select "Disconnect from Strava".

This will take you to a new page. Scroll to the bottom and select "Remove permission" from Strava.

Now return to Garmin Connect home page. This will now redraw the segment widget with the option to connect to Strava. Go through that process and see if that fixes the issue.

Alan - you are a star!

All working now - BIG THANK YOU!

    John :)
  • Hi I have been having a similar problem getting the strava segments on the edge 520. I get the segments in the inbox ready to send. When I click send now it starts syncing with garmin express but just freezes 3/4 of the way through. I don't have the strava segments folder in the training folder on the edge 520. Does anyone else have this problem? Also does anyone have any suggestions of how to fix this issue?

I'm having issues getting Strava segments to sync as well. I've tried resetting the Garmin connect/Strava link multiple times with no luck. I can't even get the segments to show up in the sync queue. Is there a trick to this? The segments are showing up on the dashboard but nowhere else.
  • I tried the above too and had issues too!

With no options left, I did the following and it worked:

    - Disconnect to Strava from segments widget in GC (follow the guideline in above post).
    - Go to Strava and un-star all your segments.
    - Check your E520 for any "left-over" segments and delete them manually.
    - From GC, reconnect to Strava via the Segments widget - select Strava segments.
    - Go to Strava and start marking your segments (star).
    - GC should now start sending them to your E520. If your E520 is connected to your phone via BT, they'll be downloaded shortly after starred. No cable is required! E520 does of course have to be on ;-)

    Hope this helps :)
