Edge 520 and text alerts

Does anyone know if the 520 can display an actual text message that you are receiving or does it just let you know that you have received one. My 520 lets me know that I have received a message but it doesn't show me the actual message.

On my Fenix is does show me the actual message which is great.

What's up with WhatsApp? My Edge 520 paired with an iPhone 5 displays old-school SMS, but no notifications for WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. Kind of useless, who is still using SMS? ;)

Also, for the Edge 520 to be able to connect to the Phone I always have to first switch on the Edge, then open up Garmin Connect on the phone, otherwise it will just show the "Searching" status.

The Fenix 3 really works much better, both things are not an issue with the Fenix.

520 does not support what's app I assume.
Just plain text messages and phone calls.
Fr230 also shows what's app, song names in Spotify, anything
Looks they simply don't want to update firmware to support whatsapp.

So in other words, the texts will NEVER show up immediately on the screen? One must always press a button to see the actual text message? Is that correct? Can someone please confirm. Because this feature is really confusing to me, and unfortunately this thread has not made it any clearer.

Same here using my 520 with 6.20 and connected to my iphone 6. If you want to see more it's a few button presses more.

520 won't connect at all

Just paired my 520, following instructions for iPhone, by using bluetooth settings, connecting to device, and verifying "pair device". The Garmin connect iso app sees the device and is connected (syncs). However, text messages not showing up on Edge. I also have Fenix 3, which is connected and receives messages. I tried turning F3 off, to make sure it wasn't blocking the Edge connection, but still no notification.

I already tried "forget this device", removed from connection from phone and Edge, and re-pairing but no luck.

Any suggestions?

No suggestions. Just a similar situation and a very frustrated customers. I've got a 520 and an iPhone 5 SE. I can't get them to pair within the Garmin Connect app, whatsoever. My 920XT works like a charm and does the automatic uploads, text messages, etc. No issues, ever.

For the 520 and the iPhone SE, I can get the devices to pair with bluetooth, but have to reset the connection every time the 520 reboots. Garmin Connect just will not recognize the 520 or work to connect to the 520 and do any kind of displaying of messages or auto-uploads. It just does not see the device. (Even though the phone, itself, does.) I am on iOS 9.3.1 and downgraded from 9.3.2, because that killed battery life. I'm considering going to 9.3.3, soon, as it might help out. But it seems like the issue is with the app.

Note that I've clean-installed IOS and done a backup as well as deleted and re-loaded the Garmin Connect app, several times, in addition to wiping the 520 and deleting it in Garmin connect as well. The only thing I have not done is a fresh install of IOS that wipes everything - no restore from a backup. I'd like to avoid that for obvious reasons - none of the rest of the apps/settings/photos/messages I have will carry through.

My phone pairs with the 520 and syncs just fine but does not receive text or phone alerts. I have unpaired, "Forget Device" and re paired and still no alerts.... anything y'all can recommend?

Have you also connected your phone to the "BLE_Edge 520" device? "BT_Edge 520" is for syncing but "BLE_Edge 520" is required for call and text notifications.

After the notification has gone away, if you press the top right button (aka the select button), you should see this menu:

If you don't see the "Missed calls and texts" menu, then you are not going to see any messages.

this works for me.
i get onscreen notification, but if i press top right button, at top of new menu i see "missed calls and texts"

My Edge 520 originally worked as advertised when paired to iPhone 6 , received Text and Call notifications (first part of text without the need to press any buttons) but now after numerous updates only gives notification of incoming calls? I have tried all suggestions to no avail cannot get any text notification, this is extremely frustrating. Come on Garmin please sort this out!!
