Auto pause - Need help.

Hi Everybody,

I changed my bike and moved the speed and cadence sensors to the new bike. All installed correctly.

It might be just a coincidence but it never happened to me with the previous bike which is extremely strange.

Suddenly the auto pause kicks in randomly while riding. I didn't change anything in the settings. The 520 is running on the latest firmware upgrades.

I tried deleting the speed sensor and pairing it again a few times but it continues to happen.

Any ideas?
  • What type of speed sensor is it? Does it use a magnet?
  • Hi Alan! :)

Nope, I am using the speed sensor that comes with the 520 bundle:

Can you post the fit file from the ride? Is the sensor on the front or back wheel?
  • The sensor is on the back wheel, same way I had it on the previous bike.

Here are the last 3 rides:

There are 4 things that can cause a problem with the sensor: a battery contact issue, loss of ant+ signal, a magnetized chain or passing something with a magnetic field. I think a magnetized chain would cause more of a problem and fit file didn't show that the sensor signal was being lost. Unless you were on a different route and passed something with a magnetic field my guess is that it's a battery contact problem. There are contacts in the battery cap and I think they can be a problem. Rotating the cap open and closed a few times may get them better seated. But since the problem wasn't there from the start I think it's more likely the finger contact to the negative side is not pressing tight enough. Putting something behind the battery would solve that. The protective sticker that comes on new batteries works well for that.

Although I didn't see any signs that the signal was getting lost you could try the sensor on the front wheel.

Thank you for your reply and thorough explanation.

I removed the sensor from the bike, opened the cap, tightened the contacts, cleaned everything and installed it back on the bike's rear wheel. Lets see if it will solve the problem. Everything looked quite tight and clean inside, it's actually quite new, approximately 3 months old, 67hrs 1300km.

My routes are more or less the same, I don't think that it happens while passing some kind of a magnetic field. It happens randomly and in routes and places it never happened in the past.

I'll post an update on after my next ride.
  • I rode yesterday night again.

The auto-pause kicked in only once (I think) while riding.

Also, at another place after stopping, it took the 520 quite a while to continue recording after starting to move. It is behaving as if it was relying only on the GPS signal and ignoring the speed sensor even though I deleted the sensor and paired it again during the ride.

    Strange.

The same happened to me. After the first time I opened the cover and checked the battery the number of auto-pauses went down but I still got a few. After messing around with the battery a second time the auto-pauses stopped. I think it might be the contacts in the cover. Maybe opening and closing the cover gets them better seated. Try rotating the cover open and closed a few times.

I'll give it a try again.

I rode yesterday night and again the auto-pause kicked in quite a few times.

I'll try rotating the cover again. Maybe the new 4.10 firmware will make a change.

That shoots down my idea that opening and closing the cover made it better.

The problem is with the sensor. If you haven't tried putting something behind the battery to make it press tighter against the contact, you could try that. Contact support to get a replacement.
