Edge 25 and Speed Sensor setup issues

what is the proper way to get the magnetless speed sensor to work correctly?
I installed the sensor, my Edge 25 detects it right way, but it doesnt seem to do anything. All the time while riding in the forest my speed will drop to 0.0, and my mileage is way off at the end. If I lift the front of my bike and spin the tire it doesnt display any speed numbers.

My buddy has a 520 with the same sensor and his works perfect. If he spins his front tire the speed shows up and at the end of a ride he might show "12.2 miles" where as my unit will show "6.6miles".

Any tips or suggestions? I'm new to all this not sure what is wrong. Do I need to ride in the streets for a bit so the unit can calibrate properly? I dont see an option on the Edge 25 to manually put in tire size like the 520 has.

But at least you can stop others from making the same mistake. "Friends don't let friends buy speed sensors".

hahaha....anyway Im using it on my trainer, hope this get resolve soon.
  • Got a speed/cadence bundle so I suppose it is best not to use the speed sensor until this gets resolved?

You are able to use the Speed Sensor when riding indoors with no issues. The Speed Sensor is not working as intended when the GPS is turned on, so you would be able to use GPS rather than the sensor when riding outside. Once the issue is resolved the expectation is that the device will use the Speed Sensor both indoors and outdoors as designed.

Ditto. Had someone ask me yesterday about using hers in indoor mode while riding outdoors. You COULD, but at that point it's really a fancy cyclometer. Really like this small, minimalist unit, all the data I want and none of the BS I don't. Speed sensor fix, few wishlist upgrades (others have posted about same things) and it will be money. Then I could recommend unequivocally rather than, "I really like it, but..."

Is it best to remove the speed senor when using outdoors until this issue is resolved?

If you prefer to remove the sensor when riding outdoors you can, I think either way the results will be the same. If you are riding in an area where you get a good GPS signal you will get good speed values, but if you lose signal you won't see speed from the sensor until the issue is resolved. I apologize for the inconvenience and the Edge 25 team is working on a resolution.

Express told me there was an update for Edge 25 so I downloaded it Saturday night. Does it have anything to do with this? Biek I rode Sunday doesn't have the wheel sensor on it so no idea. And unit said software install was successful, but it still shows Ver 3.00.

There was not new firmware update to fix issues. What you likely saw was a time zone map update. Most of the device got a new time zone map update after DST started.
