Map scroll on navigation broken?

Former Member

I tried navigating a course for the first time this morning. The map didn’t scroll so the “you are here” mark disappeared. Selecting a different screen and going back to the map recentred but then quickly went off screen again.

This looks broken rather than being a setting. Anyone else?

Thank you for the response aweatherall, that clears that up and confirms my suspicion it might be something to do with file types. Can’t fault the device since the upgrade; liking the new battery icon too which seems to be more reliable and accurate.
  • You will not get turn prompts from riding an activity as the file does not contain any turn instructions. To get turn instructions you would need to upload the activity to Garmin Connect, then convert it to a course and then export back that course back to the Edge. GC will add turn instructions into the course file when it does the export.

Are you sure? Even on the 1000 if you switch turn notice on it calculates it just based on the angle of the turn. I noticed that because I always using tracks without any turn info and only like to see native in case of deviation. When this feature was announced I have tested it and it works fairly. Just as I am doing mountainbiking I have decided to switch off as ti noticed too many turns.
  • Rode a 70 km trip yesterday on a Garmin Connect created course created. The edge 130 is now much better (actual useable), but still with some unlogical behaviour/bugs.

    1) The direction is corrected and the map now follows the rider.BUG FIXED!! GREAT
    2) The zoom-level could be changed, but if I switched sceen and returned to map, then the scale was reset to 0.3 km (both with/without autozoom). BUG
    3) Autozoom is not working. No matter what speed I drove it eventually turned to the 0.3 km scale after a while. I do not know what the intended behaviour is (since not described in the manual), but i doubt this is it. BUG
    4) On the course I did I had set a fixed speed. This is visualized by a white arrow-head that you can race against your black arrow head. the white was not heading in the direction of the route but was static in a single direction all the time.), MINOR BUG

In short one MAJOR BUG eliminated (thank you), 2 BUGS + 1 MINOR bug to go for this map issue!(for the record my battery was 80 pct complete after 3 hours ride with GPS only)

... and one thing more....please update your manual to reflect all functions.

    Sincerely

    Rasmus
  • Dear Garmin - all is well. I've had Garmin devices since my Foretrex101 years ago - probably 6 or 7 by now - and I didn't have the heart to send my Edge 130 back, even though it didn't work and my Scottish trip was looming. 2 months is a long time to wait for a fix. Returning back from a trip, I downloaded the update today, pushed on a new route and off I went. And it all worked fine! I could move between screens and the map stayed spot on when I returned to that screen. The real test was when I stopped for a coffee. The device auto-slept and when I switched it back on the map picked up the route I was following perfectly, and the display was correct. I haven't tried the Segments as I had to reset the device in order to get the new software to install. I've had no problems with syncing.
I leave for Scotland on Wednesday, and my Edge 130 will be guiding me.
PLEASE - don't f*** it up on the next release!!

I think there may be another bug in navigation. While navigating a course as normal with auto zoom activated, all was well - no problems. However, when selecting “zoom map in and out” and zooming out it stopped scrolling and the black arrow gradually moved off the screen. The same issue we had with navigation before v3.0 update except north is still pointing north. Anyone else have this issue and are Garmin aware?
  • Does this only happen if you stay on the map screen after changing the scale? If you change the scale and then leave the map page and then return does it then work correctly?

Hmm, haven’t tried that. Only on the map screen. I’ll give it a go and see. Should it make a difference though?

@aweatherall Do you know how to scale the map permanently? When I change the scale it's back to the default level after a while.
  • What scale have you got the map set to? I have been using 0.2 miles and have not seen it change, but it might be changing at other scale settings.

The default setting is 0.2 miles and it works fine at this. When I zoomed out to 0.3 or 0.4 miles is when it stopped scrolling. Exiting the zoom setting back to the default of 0.2 miles returned the scrolling back to normal. It seems to be related to using the “zoom map in and out” function.
