Map scroll on navigation broken?

I tried navigating a course for the first time this morning. The map didn’t scroll so the “you are here” mark disappeared. Selecting a different screen and going back to the map recentred but then quickly went off screen again.

This looks broken rather than being a setting. Anyone else?
  • What software version do you have on the 130?

I’d have to check but it should be running the latest version - ive synced it with both my computer and phone in the last few days.

    Version 2.2
  • I'm not seeing this issue. What site was the source of the course file?
  • This morning I started following a course. All fine. The map scrolled nicely, "me" was always in the centre and my direction of travel was always pointing to the top of the screen. Spot on.
I stopped at a cafe, and the unit went to sleep. When I switched it back on, it remembered I was doing a ride, but not that I was following a course. The map didn't move and the "me" just ran off the screen. I could up and down screen and the "me" would be back in the middle, but it soon ran off the edge again. Also the direction of travel was true, and not always pointing up. In the end I had to give up and use my Fenix 3. Is there a setting for direction of travel etc?
    Version 2.40
  • Direction of travel should always be up, but there appears to be a bug that gets triggered under some conditions where it sets it to be North as up.

I had a similar issue yesterday. The navigation was working fine until I received a text message from my wife, which appeared as a notification. After reading the message I returned to the navigation but the screen was stuck on north as upwards (rather than rotating) and the arrow showing my position would eventually disappear off screen. I had to keep toggling to another screen and then back to navigation in order to recentre the arrow, which became very annoying for another fifty miles! I have to say I'm very disappointed with the navigation on the Edge 130 so far. I found the navigation on my old Edge 200 far more reliable and easier to follow.
  • I am experiencing the same issue: map screen in north direction and not scrolling to keep ‘you are here mark’ centered.
It seems to be triggered when you start off-course or when the unit has been switched off during a ride (at a codffee stop for instance).
Running version 2.4 but saw the same issue at 2.3 as well.
  • We have this north up issue reported and are working on a fix. Thanks for the feedback.
  • I've got same issue. SW v2.40. Followed a route yesterday that I downloaded from Ride with GPS as a gpx file, then uploaded to garmin connect website, then sent to e130 from my phone (sync'd).

I had to cycle through the screens to get the "me" position relative to the route to come back. I got home and reset the device to auto scroll through my data screens (which I think I may like anyway.) I'm hopeful that's a decent bug workaround.

I did some research and learned that the device converts all gpx files to FIT files (saw this in the FAQ docs on garmin support site.) So . . . I figured I'd upload the FIT file to garmin connect web app; not a selectable option. awesome.

I plugged the e130 into my computer and was able to drag the FIT route into the NEWFILES folder on the e130. I'm hopeful this is also a fix. Doing a long ride (for me) of 73 miles tomorrow. I'm sure I'll have some time to dink around and see if this new approach (either) works. I'll update if anybody says they're interested.
