  • If a total shut down is done, then the problem does not exist. If the 1030 is just put to sleep then the problem could come up. Why not do the complete shut down?

    I have to try this.

  • It's a workaround sure, but really can it be that hard to fix a bug thats been around for nearly 18 months now?

This is true. And this worked before. ;)

  • Many electronic devices have problems determining the battery status. I don't consider the 1030's need to be cold started to get accurate battery charge percent a problem since I have had the same issue with these other devices. The question is why not do a complete shutdown instead of going into sleep mode? The Garmin takes about 15 seconds to start and aquire satellites. Sleep mode is probably 5 seconds faster.

The quality f the firmware was allways bad. There was a lot of problems in Edge 1000. And now the same s... in 1030.

  • I certainly do not have a lot of problems with my 1030. Only issue I have is that Livetrack does not end when the activity ends. I can live with manually ending Livetrack. Everything else works fine.

  • I turn it off because I know about it, but sleep mode is the default, and you have to remember to do something different. Occasionally I forget, and most people won't realise they need to do that which is why people have been posting about it regularly over the last 18 months.

  • I ride with several other 1030 owners and I was surprised that several times at the start of a ride one or two would say their 1030 battery was low. I found that they did not know that pressing the side button is sleep mode. They thought they were turning it off. Of course , Garmin explains this in the manual but many owners do not read the manual. I think what is needed is a option to have the button sleep mode or power off. Sleep mode will deplete the battery overnight.

"Sleep mode will deplete the battery overnight." -> NO!!!

I'm using the sleep mode and ist works. I can use my garmin some days. With the sleep mode the start ist faster. If I turn my garmin off, than I need some minutes to find GPS on the next day.
