What do you mean when you state it will start faster? My 1030 starts and locks on to the satellites is 15 seconds. That is fast to me. My 705 used to take over a minute to start up. I've found that leaving it in sleep mode over night will use about 40% of the battery. Sounds like yours is doing a better job in sleep mode than mine.
When my Garmin was off or not used for some days than it need 2-3 Minutes to find GPS. If I use the sleep mode and my Garmin every day, than it need seconds for searchign GPS.
I guess ithe start up time depends on your location. I'm in the southern U.S. and it is very fast. I have GPS set to GPS only since I have not had any tracking issues. Just do whatever works for you.
