Edge 1030 will not pair with iPhone 11 series, case was escalated

Spent hours today on the phone with garmin tech support. The guys are good, they try and are patient.

We tried everything. The usual things like:

remove 1030 from iPhone bluetooth list

disable connected features, soft reset, re-enable

Gets to the point of seeing 1030 as a device, passkey presented, then at the next screen the connection fails. Something went wrong, retry. Over and over.

Did this process more times than I can remember. Hit retry 8 times each attempt. No dice.

Asked me to delete and reinstall garmin connect, sign in. No help.

Turned off wifi on the phone, same thing.

Went outside away from any other interference. No help.

Finally, was asked to send a diagnostic report, and the team would find out if Garmin Connect has an issue with the new iPhone 11 Pro

Anyone have any other tips

Started gettign problems several weeks ago, Pixel 2 Phone and 1030, multiple attempts using lots of different things, but in the end, deleted everything by remving all Bluetooth stuff, remove everythign in Connect and fresh reinstall, reset 1030 back to factory and after several attempts, all worked again.

Then a week later updated to Android 10 - same process had to be repeated, then upgraded firmware on 1030, and repeat again -- and now maybe once a week they still don;t reliably connect, status sticks on connecting, then randonly an hour later they will talk with nothing else changed

Frustrating part is I have a Fenix 6 that never has a problem with Bluetooth .. even removed it for several days to see if it was conflicting with 1030, no difference

  • A long time ago after the same struggle you experience I concluded that there is something fundamentally wrong with Edge 1030 BT so I gave up on it. I sync via WIFI and/or Garmin Express and never looked back. You don't need a phone. I do phone stuff on the phone and cycling stuff on the Edge 1030. It makes life a lot more easy.

  • Yeah I hear that but I don’t care about phone to Edge for uploading files. I can easily do that with a cable. I need the phone connection for cool IQ data fields that use an internet connection. Windfield, Xert fields, etc

  • Ah, I thought you needed the Edge -phone connection for relevant matters ;-) Wind speed and direction? Really? I assigned one datafield to the direction travelled. When this datafield shows for instance NE  when I have a headwind I know the wind direction. No phone connection needed. I browsed through the IQ store and found almost no relevant items.

  • It's more useful than I expected. Especially good when you're in a paceline, making proper rotation directions. Takes all kinds

No success until I removed iPhone from 1030 (remove device). Did the same with the 1030 in the IPhone 1030 Bluetooth settings. Also powered down both devices, rebooted, initiated pairing on 1030 (look or connect phone). Go back to iPhone Bluetooth settings allow pairing and last of all go back to Connect and accept pairings. May not be exactly this sequence but definitely had to remove devices from both sides and start with a fresh slate. Very obscure and frustrating.

I was able to pair my Edge 1030 with my 11 Pro Max after only three attempts (none of which involved removing all traces of the pairing from both devices). But I feel like the pairing is pretty brittle. Multiple times on a ride (like four–six), the Edge will disconnect from the phone, but will reconnect a minute or so later. I suspect that eventually it will disconnect and permanently be unable to reconnect until I once again start all over again with the pairing process.

So it's sort of ironic that my phone informs me that the connection to the Edge has been lost, every time I power the Edge off completely.

  • I gave exactly the same problem

  • I finally got mine paired I restored the edge 1030 and deleted it the edge from my phone switched off Bluetooth on my phone changed the name in the edge to E 1030 downloaded garmin app switched Bluetooth on signed into app and the when to settings in the app and  switched location to on then switched edge on clicked pair a mobile phone pressed continue the went to add device in the app pressed start when they came up with the pair key I clicked the yuck on the edge first and then I got the next screen that says Allie connection on my iPhone which is what I was never getting before and now it’s synced hope this may help some people

    thanks

Same issue here.  Always had trouble trying to upload rides and it has never worked seamlessly.  Now I can't connect the phone and Edge at all and I'm starting to get sick of this. Heard other companies offer effective and efficient integration without having to waste more time uploading than actually training on the bike.
