How to have a back up course file if file is lost.

I started a 300k ride and my 1030 said no courses found. I then had to ride with paper. Is there a way to have the ability to have the same course on a back file on the 1030. I tried changing the name but it will not take the second course not sure why.

What is the best way to have a back up file of a course in case the file gets lost at the event?

Did you load this via an app on to your garmin or via a computer. I tend not to use apps as I have lost files before.

If you don't have access to mapsource or basecamp you can email me you gpx route and I'll send back a couple of copies with different names if you like. It only takes about a minute

  • I like to thank everyone for responding. I started to mess around with the the 1030 and the sd card. I have come to figure out if you load the course in the new file on the sd card and then load up the course on the garmin. This created one course then i loaded the course on the main 1030. It created a second course with the same name. This will allow you to either ride the course from the sd or the main unit. In essence it created a back up. I will also carry a seperate sd card with the file loaded only in the new file as a third back up for the course. If all fails then i can always reload the course.
